That's what I was getting at - you 'hear' and 'see' people that have won on the lottery but as far as I can remember I've never heard anyone say 'bob from down in dispatch won't be turning up anymore... He's only gone and won the big one on The Bonds!'

Although we do actually get snippets of stories about Lotto winners lives going to the dogs after a few years of hitting the big time.
I personally know a £10k and £5k winner but not any higher.

Why don't they promote the £1M winners, like the Lottery does?

I too am thinking of bailng out and moving on. In fact it will make up my new ISA allowance...

Maybe the type of people who win on PBs don't want the publicity. You make it sound like you're bailing due to the lack of press should you win. wink

I'm just using it as a savings account, once it equals what I need to pay off my mortgage that's what it will do.

I think in all the years the premium bond prize has been a million/month ( wasn't that long ago there were 2 x million pound prizes awarded each month) - there would have been at least one winner who might have mentioned their win to the media.

That's an interesting point.

I'm not sure who actually buys premium bonds. Perhaps it's mainly the elderly?

Good point, Simpo yes

I would imagine many people will be currently filling their £5,760 Cash Isa Allowance then looking for a safe home for the rest in PBs (ignoring the negative return). Once the cash limit goes to £15k per person in July, I wonder if we'll see an exodus from PBs? scratchchin

Judging by the holdings of the winners it appears to be people who have stacks of cash. It seems to me unless I have £30k of holdings with bonds of £5k I won't win anything!

As in 'If you don't give me a million pounds I'm selling'? Well stranger things have worked spin

I photographed a wedding for chap in the Cabinet Office not long ago. I will have words...
'Mr Cameron, Simpo says that if he doesn't win £1M he's selling up'
'st! Where's my chequebook?'

I see there's a utility company - OVO? - who offer 3% on accounts in credit but I bet their tariffs are higher to pay for it and the interest limted to £10 year or something silly.

Russian flags, that's where the market is... and banners saying 'Long Live Ukraine'.

Just moved my Dual Fuel to OVO @ approx £250 per month and they came up as the cheapest on all the search engines for my profile. Wasn't aware of the possible 3% in credit !!!

Must investigate yes

OVO T&Cs for the 3% reward scheme.......

a.In any year we will not pay interest rewards of more than 12 times the monthly Direct Debit amount we have agreed with you.
b.If you make a significant overpayment into your customer account, then ask for that amount back within six months, we will reclaim any interest reward you have earned from that amount.
c.We can review your monthly Direct Debit at any time.
d.If you choose to leave us during the term of a fixed contract, we will work out how much interest reward you have received during that contract and add it to the final balance you will need to pay us.
e.We can withdraw your entitlements under the Ovo Interest Reward scheme if we feel you are not using it appropriately.

Not bad...

So I suspect if you open an account and stick £5K in they will probably throw you out... but 12x the DD is effectively double.

I think I'll pass. It's a lot of hassle for a few % and once you're in they can raise their prices. You don't get owt for nowt as they say. These schemes are not worked out by fools.

Well, knock me down with a feather, Simpo, I had you down as a progressive kind of guy... hehe

I'm currently in credit with ScottishPower to the tune of £776 and the tight-arse Jocks will be repaying shortly with zero interest !!!

I've stopped being a slave to price on these things....SP Retention Team have actually offered me a better deal than OVO....I just crave a bit of customer service, you know, where people return your emails, don't change your plan mid-term, don't try and shaft your parents...little things like that smile

premium bonds seem like a bit of a joke. I think I may have got £25 in the past year.

My gran said her friend once won £25k...I've not heard any other winners stories other than this one.

Just because you have not heard about them it doesn't mean they don't happen. They do. Every month.

I'm not saying that they don't happen, I'm merely following on from earlier comments about how it's not often you actually hear about someone winning.

I 100% believe that people win, that is not in question.

Years ago (probably early 90's) we put £5k in - within about 6 months we won £1K. woohoo
Not a bad return bowtie

Not wishing to push our luck we then withdrew it all wink
