Which is considered as better?

My housemate swore that Henries are far superior to Dyson and that the cyclone malarkey is overrated. I disagreed.

Thoughts?

Henry probably best value and they seem tough. But having owned a couple of Dyson I'd buy Miele from now on.

People working in dirt environments (builders) or doing a lot of cleaning (e.g. office cleaners) tend to use Henry.

Plus Henry is made in England.

I have an origional Dyson Pet (made in England) its brill - When I had to buy some new brushes for it the guy in the shop reckoned that the new ones are not as well made as the early ones never die.

Henry. Tough, cheap, simple, great spares backup (you can buy every single component individually) and actually made in Britain, not quietly moved production to the Far East.

I can accept that the Dyson might do a bit better at pulling the last 5% of dust out of the carpet, and that an upright is a little easier to use for big open sections, but you pay a big premium for it and they seem to break a lot.

Had a couple of Dysons and a Kirby and my missus now swears by her Henry.

Noticed the last time we went to the dump just how many Dysons were lined up there...

Depends on the application but if you want a tough, reliable, functional vac then Henry wins everytime.

If you want to impress people with looks then the Dyson.

I find any discussion on this ends up going round in circles.

TBH, neither. Cheap bagless or quality Miele. However Which?, who seem to get very excited over vacuum cleaners had Dyson's as good at the job and average on reliability. Henry's came near the bottom on doing the job and top on reliability.

Am I the only one who mis-read the thread title and thought it was about boxing?

FWIW I'd go for a Miele, our current Dyson sucks....

My 15yo Henry still works exactly as the day i first used it when i used to clean offices. It has survived 5 years of office cleaning then 10 years as a house cleaner. And I have used it for liquids from day 1 so it's been pretty industructable.

A Dyson may take more dust out but will not last as long.

I have found Kirbys to be the best however you have to deal with a kirby salesman to get a new one, or automatically void the warrantee on them if you buy from the prvious owner direct.

I have both a Henry and a Dyson. The Dyson is great around the home and am on my second one but it is not an industrial hoover and not claimed to be. So the Henry gets used for DIY stuff that needs hoovering up, as my ExH found out Dyson's do not like brick dust very much but a Henry copes no problem!

Depends really what you will use it for as to what is best.

first post guys so easy on me...

I would say Dyson is unbeatable in today's market. It's cheap - standard model DC07 upright is £140 delivered, comes with 5 yr warranty and is easily fixable by the user using parts sent out by Dyson should anything go wrong.

It's easily stored and works very well.

This ^^

There have been loads of threads on this subject and Miele is the weapon of choice for the informed doomestic hooverer. Ours is 10 years old and is as good as the day it was new

Henry or his big brother Charles in James are quality bits of kit as used by a lot of professional office cleaning companies, car valet companies, builders/tradesmen where as I cant say i've been overly impressed with my own Dyson - just glad I didn't pay a penny for it.

A work colleague used to work at Dyson and reckons that the vast majority of failures are caused by people not cleaning the filter/main components regularly enough which to me seems a bit silly as you buy a vacuum to remove mess, you don't expect to have to strip the thing an rebuild it all the time.
