Miele everytime, just ordered our second one as the first has had rather a lot of abuse! I see they are offering a 10 year guarantee for £30 too if that is your thing.

My tip - vacuum a room with a Henry first, then follow up with a Dyson (any Dyson) and see how much more dirt is removed. Had Dysons for years now - broke the first one cleaning up after building work but it sucked like a bd to the end...........
As previously noted there is always a long line of them at my local tip - I wonder if i could score one for a bit of mythbusting!

/pondering/

perhaps build a test rig from a clear plastic tube with a ping pong ball in it. Attach henry to one end and a Dieste to the other end and see which way the ball goes.

Perhaps invent a new sport called Vacuum cleaner boxing..."In the red corner weighing in at 5 kilos we have Henry - And in whatever trendy colour your WIFE picked - we have DieSoon weighing in at 8 kilos"

But what would this be?

Sebo.

I used to have a Sebo but now a Dyson which I hate although the Mrs absolutely swears by it (the Dyson arrived in her life before me). Ever tried hoovering a car out with one? No hope - the detachable hose doesn't have enough flex - most of it is rigid and gets in the way. And emptying it? I get more on me than in the bin.

Hateful fking thing.

By the way, the ex-wife took the Sebo. And for the car I use the old cylinder Bosch thing I had when I lived on my own - the whole hose is flexible - perfect for the cars.

I'm not sure why I've shared my life in vacuum cleaners but I hop you enjoyed the insight to my life

I've had both at work, Dyson at home. Never found Henrys to be powerful enough.

Next weeks Watchdog will have a segment on Dysons; didn't catch what it was actually about.

Both our dyson's seemed to loose suction after a year of ownership and no matter how much we have cleaned the filters etc... they are just not the same as they used to be and are useless now pretty disappointing...

Can you still get metal henrys? our (we have 2, one came from a skip) are brilliant, will suck up concrete. No bags needed, never looked at the filter, not sure if there is one.

Wouldnt use it for the house though, thats what the dyson is for.

Henry for work; they'll suck up anything and never die.

But at home you want a Dyson. It'll kill them eventually but they suck up everything.

I vote dyson as they get blocked up and chucked out after a year. I go to the recycling center and get free dysons

Clean the holes in the swirly bit inside the cack catcher.

Check the vaccum relief valve ain't leaking

Finally check a hose isn't blocked

I've had Dyson for over 12 years now. The marketing mistake they made was saying the filters are for life - they aren't - change them and wash out the cyclone bit and they are good as new. No smells, no dust and it will still pull at the carpet.

Having owned a bagless cleaner for a short while and having to go through the rigmarole of taking it to pieces and cleaning everything I thought to myself (whilst getting covered in dust) 'why am I having to clean the thing that is supposed to clean for me?'
