I collect old books. The oldest I have is a Latin bible printed in 1524.

I also have a copy of Ptolemy's "Geographia" - an atlas of all the major countries and regions along with descriptions - from 1594.

Both are still perfectly readable after nearly 500 years. The same will not be said of today's e-books...
Out of interest - with books of that age do you keep them in a special environment/contolled climate to stop them deteriorating? If one wanted a long term investment the right books have always struck me as a reasonable thing. I have no idea why as I've never really looked into it just a thought I keep coming back to. Any insight? Feel free to pm me if you wish to keep the thread on track.

Cheers!

Oak chest from 15something. Not sure the children appreciate it, other than something to put the Xbox controls onto.

Oldest thing I have in my house is a bit of plasterboard. I knocked down my godmothers house to replace it, on the plasterboard has her fathers writing........

We demolished the house by hand so quite amazing to find it by chance.

I also have this, which is the oldest thing I have bought, and it is still in it's original box & packaging

which from the stamps on the box and the first 'royal appointment' inside can be dated to about 1952 smile (before the Queens Coronation but after her Father's death). If I could make out the date on the Sorting Office Stamp, I'd know exactly how old it was biggrin

It's immaculate, and cost me £5 from a house sale in London about 10 years ago biggrin

My staircase (e-bay, not original) is probably late 19th century gothic revival

Got a couple of 16th century glasses, but they're not as cool as the stairs

A couple of my old toys in the loft date back to when I was 2-3 years old, so 1989ish. Mainly toy cars and Thomas the Tank Train characters. Not worth anything to anyone but would be a shame to let them go.

Keeper as in, a cheaper ring to stop a more expensive ring from falling off? (that is what google says the original use was for many many moons ago?)

I know the Peckham crack trade has been going on a bit, but that's taking the piss.

Also a tea cup from 1600's

Couple of bits of furniture are over 200 years old.

I've got a couple of shotguns which are easily over 100 years old but i still shoot them, lovely sensation to use something so old.
Much the same, except only one of my shotguns is over the 100, the other is just under. Furniture includes a Georgean chesterfield, a monks bench, suff like that.
