Gutted. Having work done to the house due to flood damage, so no-one has been living there. Went round last night to check up/get mail and found that I have been burgled.
Happened on Wednesday night from what I can gather from some noises that neighbours heard, but didn't connect the noise with my place.
At heart I am a collector (hoarder) and the thieving scrotes have had away with some of my beloved collections.
My Myth & Magic Tolkien figurines from the 90s, boxed
My life's collection of comics from the 80s-90s.
Tolkien collectable calendars from the 80s
Discworld collectible calenders from the 90s/00s
My granddad's Sega one penny one armed bandit
James Bond car collection set, that I had been collecting since 2007
Many Star Wars micro machines boxed, Millennium Falcon and die cast ones from the 90s
Star Wars monop0ly and Thud board games.
ANd video collectors editions, one of which was Jungle Book, with an animation cell.
And I think some cuddly toys

come on here to have a cry.

Hmmm, hope you were insured for it,

opportunistic thieves? or did someone know they were there and their value?

3 things spring to mind:
1) You're trolling/making it up.
2) Someone who collects and knows about these kinds of things knew you had these and that the house was empty.
3) You got raided by 8 year old boys.

An opportunist burglar would have grabbed the laptop, watches and DVD player.

That is an odd lot of collections to vanish, where they all boxed up together? I suspect you may struggle to get the value you feel is correct and to replcae all your stuff.

Bad luck frown One of my student's parents' house was burgled after an electrical fault meant that there was a fire and they had to move out. The fire was reported in the local paper, lo and behold the thieves went round and cleared the place out as they knew nobody was living there and the alarm would be knackered furious

Agreed that it doesn't sound opportunistic. If it's properly insured/documented should you be able to get a decent payout?

At least it's replaceable (as opposed to laptop with family photos, etc.)

Could be worth letting a few auction houses know as that's fairly collectable stuff so hopefully someone would see it and let you know?

Feel for you chap. Irreplaceable stuff you do not want to lose - put it in the loft. How many burglaries are you aware of where the loft got burgled?

Some friends of ours were burgled in a strange way. They were moving in to their house, and as part of doing that, moved the stuff into the garage so that it could be sorted out and put in the house over the next couple of days. The very first night in the house, their garage was emptied - ALL their stuff as they were still staying at the old house that night. Obviously someone had knowledge.

When my missus was burgled, they took all the usual drug money electrical and jewelry stuff, plus what looked like a very expensive metal camera box. Sadly, it was not. It contained all her kids school reports, photos and similar irreplaceable items of absolutely no value at all to anyone else.

Once again, sad to hear. If it was just electronics etc, hey-ho treat it as time to replace them, but your collections, now that really is sad.

You've either been burgled by a geek or someone you know.

Thanks for the advice fellas, this is a little like therapy and I just wanna get it out, chat about it and then move on, I am not contents insured (my fault I know, I thought it had been taken care of after my flood damage) the financial loss is one I'll take it's the scrote trampling over my stuff and taking stuff that has been collected over 30 years, mostly from the 90s, some of it gotten me as presents that is the real kicker.

The loft is an idea I'll use in future, usually my stuff is packed away, but with the flood damage, we cleared the house, and put what we thought was less valuable stuff in the conservatory (coin collection and other goodies at parents etc). I don't own much in the way of hi tech gizmos, we have one big screen telly but that was at my mates. I might seem like a strange collection but I am/was a big Tolkien/comic buff and so my collection spanned from 80/90s (school/teenage years).
The bond cars are over £1000k on retail value. They are still on sale in the newsagents, we're up to 108 now, I think I'll stop.smile

I am checking e bay (and gumtree) for the cars and Tolkien figures (one new I just saw is 250 euros on the official myth and magic website, but I wouldn't see anybody getting anywhere near on ebay).
I just came on here to whine/let off steam really, try and recollect what else they took, when I realised they took my granddads bandit I couldn't sleep.
The wife/geek comments are amusing fellas, I guessed there would be some of that, but fkkit I've been a closet geek for decades so am used to itbiggrin

Makes me think though, why collect anything? Why bother, someone comes in and takes the lot, he won't get decent value for it, it'll just be sold for buttons or thrown away once he realises he won't get much for it (I have a collection of magazines, he took half them too). Starting to think best not to buy anything nice and live in a cell.

Do that and you let the scrotes win. Some basic precautions. and you'll be fine. You can start collecting something less portable, perhaps?

Let's say some of my stuff has popped up recently.
What is the best way to go about getting it back?

Depends on how you know it's popped up, and whether you can prove it's your stuff. Would you be prepared to elaborate?

Someone is selling items via social media, items that match some of the items listed above.
These items should be on the police report from back then. Percentage wise it must be close to 90%, but I couldn't say for 100% without actually having them in my hands.

did you record the barcode or other number and pass to the police or you going off the looks of it?

If the latter, then forget about it.

Did you get a payout for the goods? If so, then even if you get them back they are not yours.
