bandit

If it's extras and not the original spec miscalculated then that's all good!

Having never taped and jointed plasterboard before, what's the best compound (or compounds) to use?

Any updates Muncher?

Also, what have you decided, if anything yet, on the garage door itself, manufacturer etc. Looking myself currently ...

Cheers

Edit: From another thread ...

I've got a 3.5m x 3m Hormann coming in about 2 weeks, will let you know what it's like when it arrives.
Sectional, roller? Any thoughts ...

Things have moved on, but not quite as far as I had hoped, my plasterer was due to start and finish in February but it is still only half done, it is "supposed" to be done by the weekend.

As with all these things, it always takes longer than you thought it would (unless you are pvapour or Griff Boy!)

We had to cast and slate a step down from the patio as the drop to the level of the grass was just too big. I also now have all the sleepers in forming the borders, the bottom fence is up and so is the side fence plus a concrete path for my walk through into the bowls club. The cedral weatherboard has arrived and the starter profiles are on, I might make a start on installing it over the weekend depending on how much time I have. I'm also finishing setting up 4 sprinklers which will cover the whole back garden.

To answer your question, the door itself (sectional Hormann) is still not on as it can't be fitted until the inside is plastered, painted and finished.

Looking really, really good. Not surprised as to progress, as these things DO tend to take seemingly forever, especially when you're in the hands of others/

Curious as to why a sectional door and not a roller - it's not as though you don't have the height!

Sectional doors tend to be thicker (with more insulation) so a good idea if you have the space and want to heat/maintain the temp in there.

Mainly because it looks better and feels more solid.

The plasterer has finally been back and rendered all of the inside with the final skim coat going on tomorrow.

If the choice of door were aesthetics and insulation reasons then they're both valid ones.

I've seen roller doors with I think, at the most, 20mm thickness so allowing for a skin of 1mm that's 18mm of insulation. No idea how thicker the insulation in sectional doors is.

Roller doors do look all the same though ... so no choice there.

I was thinking of getting a Hormann roller one so was interested in your choice.

Could you share some specs on what it is? Is it cement board?

I've got to sort out mine, you see...

I like the staggered joints. Like you're supposed to do with laminate flooring but hardly anyone does...

It's Marley Cedral, C18 Slate grey, about £2,700 worth to do the whole garage including trims etc

Cut with a laminate flooring guillotine and screwed onto battens every 400mm or so.

Gotta do mine too ... although it isn't as much as yours! I jet-washed the brick drive and took some of the paint off the door and it's made me think perhaps it's time to get a roller one ... (ease of use) ...

Thanks. I've been struggling to find someone up here (East Midlands) willing to touch anything more sophisticated than the proverbial pvc... This is the front of my house. It matters...

It seems like a quality product so far. It's not cheap but then I do have an awful lot of it. 83sqm of it in fact!

Last summer we had 2 sealed units on a front window fail and must slightly, this disappeared over the winter, but came back over the last week. I have just checked the rest and almost every one at the front (18 panels!) are also showing signs of failure! frown

The supplier went into administration about a year after they supplier us, I don't think there is anything I can do other than replace them?

Replacement of the sealed units is the only solution. Any chance of some credit card protection footing the bill?

Sorry to hear this. That's poor after only a year. These 10-year guarantees or whatever bandied about are worthless I presume of the company is in administration. The sealed units weren't supplied to them by another manufacturer? As it is, your contract is with the supplier it would seem.

Maybe replace over time, how bad are they exactly ... ?
