I moved house recently. In my old place I had Cisa Astral S locks with Mila Prosecure handles.

I opted for a set of keyed alike Yale Superior locks this time, purely because they were £100 cheaper than Cisa for the quantity I needed (http://www.handlestore.com/locks/yale-security-euro-cylinder). Looking at the site mentioned in the post above it seems they're quite sturdy, although can be picked if you've got a friendly Italian expert on hand to help:

I also got some Hoppe security handles, although they seem really flimsy compared to the Mila.

ukbumpkeys sell pretty much anything you need to pick locks, or snap barrels, etc - and it's not even illegal to carry them unless the police can prove you were intending to commit a crime.
I have their Klom pick gun, and it's helped me out more than a few times when friends lost keys. Never met a lock yet that it will not pick, though it is pretty noisy.
I also bought their barrel snapper to persuade my mum to change the locks in her house - cheapo PVC door standard ones, protruding about 10mm from the handle assembly.
I was able to snap them off and get into the house (she knew I was doing it) from the next room, without hearing a thing until I opened the livingroom door to say hello.
Scary stuff, but not everyone is prepared to fork out for good locks - she had 9 Yale cheapos in her doors altogether. Costs a bit for a pensioner to buy all those.
But she did - I can still do them with the pick gun, but that sounds like someone is drilling into a brick outside the door, so more of a professional tool for locksmiths - it would wake most people up.

The Snapper only works if you have a insecure housing around the lock itself, so for example I have a high security bezel round mine, and it's on a wooden door, so I'm not too worried about these tools. I also have the cylinder version of the ABS lock for our day latch. I think if you protect your barrels you'll be OK.

The ABS and the Ultion both do the Job. Its best to go for a security handle as this is much better, I bought the Mila pro secure handle and the ABS Lock from Pro Plus Trade Counter in Bradford. www.proplustrade.co.uk . They stock ultion and ABS. One good point about the mila security handle is that it looks the part and scares potential intruders without even trying to break in.

Necro BUMP biggrin

Evening guys, so new property and some of the cylinder locks stick out from the door on both sides by 15-20mm!

Read a ton of this thread and had settled on

Handle PAS24
http://security-hardware.co.uk/upvc-door-handles/9...

ABS cylinder
http://proplustrade.co.uk/product/abs-paired-anti-...

Then read this and concluded perhaps the "Yale Three Star Platinum" should be the cylinder of choice?
http://midlandlocks.angelfire.com/blog/index.blog?...

Any thoughts, and new recommendations?

I think the reality is any anti-snap lock will be enough to defeat your average tealeaf scrote. Considering probably 98% of the population only have the cheap locks that come with their patio door, the chances of dumbo being able to bump your lock is tiny. Bare in mind they might simply smash the actual double-glazed pane and walk right through. Which is what they did to my next-door neighbour.

Interesting to see some of the bumping and picking videos - so many of them are faker than a fake thing marketing bumpf using rebuilt locks with missing bits.

The ABS locks do seem compromised though?

As with some mechanisms it is possible to get locked out with the abs avocets. I wanted to use one on my new front door but couldn't.

Can't remember what was added to my Ultion locks for key alike but it wasn't much, single figures per lock. Keys all worked ok, £6 or so each half with spark engraved serials half without. I'd wonder if someone having problems cutting keys is using a third party decoder and cutting setup as all the ones I got were from someone who sold the locks so would have the proper kit?

The only thing I remember about the locks is they were a mix of slightly different generations so there have been revisions.

I actually found that the fastest way to learn lock bumping - take out the mushroom pins, and once you can do it first time, every time, put one back in and re-learn how to do it. Then just work your way up to a full lock, and Bob's your uncle.

We fit Ultion whenever we have to use a Euro cylinder, they're very good.

Don't have any problems with getting keys cut to a specific key number, have done this many times and never had one that doesn't work.

And my supplier doesn't charge any extra for keying alike or adding thumb turns.

The Ultions can be unlocked from the outside when locked on the thumb turn.

A big flaw with the Avocet is the big open slot and the flat key profile, lots of space for dirt to get in and lots of space to get tools into too.

Though wiggling a key blank with a bit of foam in it seems a bit simplistic?

Surely as long as they are more secure than the other houses on your street, you'll be fine.

I wouldn't worry too much, your locks are more secure than 99% of houses out there.

If someone is determined to get in, they will - but you're trying to deter opportunists who won't carry these specialist tools round in their hoodies.

This, the very sight of an anti snap lock will deter the vast majority of them, plus that lock pick was in "lab" conditions. Will be tricky in the dead of night amd in a rush.
