House renovation and garage build
Discussion
No picture today, as it was dark by the time I thought about it.
Guttering has been fitted and the path completed. The shed has been done, but is 7' x 4' instead of 7' x 5', so will need to see what the plan is about that in the morning. I had a chat with the builder at the start of the week about it and he asked if I was sure I wanted it to overlap the path, to which I said yes, but he's just done it up to the path
The garage floor is going in tomorrow, so it is nearly done!

The garage is starting to look finished, all that the builder needs to do now is build two supporting pillars next to the side door and hopefully tweak the roof a bit as water was pooling on it after the rain on Friday evening.
The smaller shed base is starting to make sense to me, clearing out a load if stuff and maybe keeping the bikes in the garage will mean that we can avoid a significant remodelling of the garden.
My next job is to paint the inside of the garage, I've got a couple of pots of Sandex masonry paint, which will be fine for the bricks, but will it go onto the metal brackets without flaking off? On a similar note, will I get away with using either masonry paint (or emulsion, when I've boarded the ceiling) on the wood? Or am I going to have to stop being lazy and gloss it?

The masonry paint will cover the steel straps just fine, it did in mine.
I'd be tempted to insulate and board the roof, then emulsion it, shouldn't cost much but it will make the garage a lot warmer and will be easier to paint than the rafters.

The builder has now fitted the piers next to the door and is now finished, so the next task is to paint the inside of the garage and finish the trench for the electrics. Now that is down to me to do the work the pace of work will slow down a bit.
Today we started the painting, although the masonry roller wasn't that great, so the letters stamped on the back of the bricks and some of the pointing don't get covered, so going to continue with brushes tomorrow and for the second coat.
I also took the time to paint the steel lintel above the door before the garage door is fitted, I'm not sure if it will still be visible, but it will certainly be more difficult to paint with the door in place.

Roof deck is not right, there should be firrings on the joist, and joints in ply should be fully supported. He's put a timber along the back to put a fall in, but it will dip in the middle.
I wasn't sure about the deck, but builder assured me it's OK. There are firrings, but front to back, I thought that there should be a couple more. I'll check about the joins being supported too. Had a break away from 119 for a few days, but since getting back have continued with the garage painting, which I think it going to need a third coat and have ordered a shed.
When I got back I found my chilli plants covered in aphids and a lot of ants on the patio/in the outside bog. So I've attacked the ants with ant powder and am deploying a squadron of ladybirds to eat the aphids.

I managed to get the garage moved up the priority list as I had to compromise on my main requirement ( garage) to get the house Jen wanted. She's also been told there's no chance of us getting married until the garage has has been built.
All the garage/shed stuff is being stored in the dining room at the moment too, so we can't start on the dining room until the garage & shed are done.
