That's bindweed, we have it. its pretty resilient ans will grow back if any part remains in the ground.

One good method we have used it to gather up (don't cut) all the long stems and leaves and cram it in a plastic drinks bottle thats had one end cut off, then spray in a load of powerful weed killer, it will absorb it all in and die off around that point then you can remove it

Thanks for the identification and tips. I've ordered some weed killer so will tackle it as soon as it arrives.

Might have to buy my plants from elsewhere in future.
