More to do with the offshore schedule than the growth of the grass. If the missus would actually take a second to figure out how to use it then it wouldn't be a foot tall every time I get back!!!

Mum bought a cheap one... erm... Challenge Extreme (?) from where-ever that is from, and tbh its nothing special. Very hard to start this year
Have you drained & put some fresh fuel in it this year? Fuel doesn't age well.

Hmmm -some mixed views. Let's ask another question - armed with £100 would you buy a cheap petrol mower or a decent spec Flymo?

Yeah it had new fuel.

Starts fine when warm, just terrible when cold. Think there might be crap in the carb because it doest choke this year.

yep we did- in fact we need to sell our Izy on in the next few weeks (just need to work out if i have cash for a bigger one!)- and that will go on the bay for about £100-125.

Starts first or second pull every time so they ARE out there.

I've just bought a Honda Izy for £70, needs sharpening and a service - runs well on choke but hunts around off it. From reading around I believe a sparkplug (£2.20) might cure it, but will inevitably give it new filter/oil and dismantle the carb too.

Not sure if that counts?

I think you are missing the point. A petrol mover means you can pretend you have a motorbike smile

Also all power tools should be as dangerous and as noisy as possible.
yes

I thought about just strapping some kind of cutting gear to my Picanto (it's about as powerful as a lawnmower) but I can't reach the back garden from the road irked
In that case one of these

and one of these for the hedges should do you nicely then biggrin

Buy a ride-on TP.

Spend 14 seconds mowing the lawn, then sit back with a beer and feel like a King until the stars come out.

I advised my brother in law to a local independant engineering style place and they sold him a second hand mower. Now the only second hand mowers they sell are worth fixing, and fixable. they gave him a years warrenty and a free service at the end. £115.

This might be the answer.?

Been there.

I was given an 'old-skool' petrol mower when we moved to our 1st house.

It never cut properly, then the pull start broke and skinned a few knuckles in the process.

I drove to B&Q in a huff, tyres squealing, walked out with an electric Flymo thing 57 seconds later and never looked back tbh.

Don't rule out a ride-on though. I love mine now. My wife refers to it as 'that bh'.
