If you want to pimp out like an English Gent tending his own putting green and wicket.....
Distinguished ride...But it only has 6.5hp.
The 'big block' Briggs & Stratton 'Hemi' in my Torro Wheelhorse has 16hp.
Can't beat cubic inches.
What's that?
I'm the Steve McQueen of mowing?
I suppose I am.
We got this;
No idea what on earth it is.
We use it to mow the lawn, and as you can see, we stick a trailer on the back and I drive around while the siblings pick up the horse crap from the 2 acre field.
Runs a treat, never misses a beat and is really, really fun to drive.
We got it relatively cheap off of eBay.

My electric Flymo started smoking at the weekend - the pulley had jammed
So, Inspired by this thread I went out and bought one of these

Seems pretty good so far, B&S engine started on second ever pull (but I did fill it with 99 RON petrol and Mobil 1 oil - it was all i had )
Anyway, how do I clean it? Is it safe to tip the engine to get underneath?

I bought one of the cheap McCulloch petrol mowers from Argos about 4 years back. Paid about £90 I think. Plastic deck, Briggs & Stratton 450-series engine, and after 4 years of neglect all it's ever needed is a new starter rope. I was a little unsure about the plastic deck but it's been fine.
Bargain!

Much love for the lords of the respective manors but i'm really just trying to give a crappy manual push mower a PH twist here
Reminds me of Eddie Izzard's bit about 'push' carpet sweepers - that go 'hododododer...' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uLUdekbWEw&fea...
What did you end up going for OP? I've currently got a crappy electric mower, that came with the house, but can't afford a Honda Izy, so I'm in the same situation, do I spend £150 on a good electric mower, or a crap petrol mower. The lawn isn't very big and I'm not overly fussed about stripes.
If you are mechanically minded you are in the season of free lawnmowers
Go to your nearest recycling point and wait for someone to bring in a dead mower as it won't start or run.
Bring it home clean the carb, replace the fuel pump diaphragm, change the oil and put in a new spark plug and off it trots

buy a second hand Honda izzywe bought ours for £145 4 years ago, its never missed a beat since.
Now need a bigger one, and I still reckon we'll get £120 for it.
I have just bought on Ebay a brand new Sanli LSP42 self propelled petrol lawnmower, the same that retails for £259.00, for just £110 with 2 years warranty, collection in the OP's town of Gloucester.
