I'm looking to put a small patio down the end of our garden with some rattan furniture and a fire pit to spend those few - but nice long somers evenings with family and friends.

So, I though I would start a topic as I would love to here people's advice on what style fire pit to go for, what to concider with its location - and most of all I would like to see some pictures of other peoples patios.

No advice I'm afraid but I'm planning to do the same in the next couple of weeks. Would be interested to see some patios and edgings if anyone has any good examples.

I had this one built this one last year, 12' x 14' concrete pad with brick edging, stone benches and pit, with brick coping (I think that's the right word) around top of the pit.

The inside of the pit is firebricks, there is a drain in one corner, and I laid a gas pipe in the concrete in case I wanted to connect it up later.

I built the pergola myself to match the ones over the BBQ and dining area.

Apologies for poor quality pic - point-and-shoot at twilight...

Not a great photo as it was taken straight into the sun on my phone, but we bought a 6 seat rattan dining set (table and other chairs currently in the conservatory) and a hacienda terracotta woodburner for our decking. I keep a few bags of dry wood in our shed.

I will get some better ones with the table out etc. at the weekend.

We had a square, metal, wood burner last year which did a great job of scorching the decking.

This year I've bought a Weber Fireplace, although not had a chance to use it yet.
