Hopefully it won't be long until your little one is sleeping through - then you'll find that the only time you have to do those noisy DIY jobs is after 8pm...

surveyor said: I'd look at it a different way. I'd not start a lawn mower up at 8PM as I consider those around me, and am aware that those with children would find it disruptive, and it's a time in the evening when people are sitting down to relax commonly. I totally agree. I am shocked at some of the comments on this thread. I can't believe most of you would be happy if your neighbour fired up a lawnmower up at 8pm, I call BS.

If my neighbour had fired up the lawnmower at 8pm last night I would have been perturbed I'll admit, but I was drinking with him and helping him cook a BBQ while the OH's watched Eurovision

I think it's perfectly acceptable. Anyone else think that a chainsaw at 7am on a Saturday isn't though?
(judging by the other neighbours conversation outside my window they agreed, but had checked and apparently no restrictions for noise at that time)

Forget restrictions. It's about whether you respect your neighbours or not. 7am on any day is too early as some people might get up at 8am to go to work. I suppose noise at any time is a bit awkward if you consider some might be on night shift particularly hospital workers... sucks to be them!

Ooh no not this side, he may be the most boring man ever to grace the earth, we bump onto each other at times and I can feel the life force being drained out of me as he speaks, I find myself wanting an errant car to come and hit me as the pain would be less The other side are fine though and good friends of ours

Depends really.... I can be in bed 7:30 - 9:00 pm depending on what time I'm starting in the morning.
Luckily my neighbours all know this so they keep it down after 8.. It would bother me slightly if they started at it knowing full well I would be in bed.
I'd rather it always get dark at around 7, That works fine for me. Bit of sun and people go crazy.
