Ok, its a transformer for the electric IKEA bed that tilts up when you press the button... not used it in years!

forgot there was even a socket there!

30w x 365 days x 5 years @ 20p a KW is approx £11.00. Not a disaster but a waste none the less.

Switch your washing machine off at the socket. Mine, and one before it, takes a few watts (can't recall how many) even when off on the controls but plugged in to a live socket.

Nope, 30 x 8766 x 5 / 1000 * 0.10 (10p per unit) is £131.49 so at 20p per unit is £262.98

What has 30 watt on constant for 5 years cost me?

anyone guess what?
30 watts for 5 years

How many hours in 5 years? => Rough fag packet (disallowing leap year(s)) = 24 * 365 * 5 = 43800 hours

30 watts for those hours = 30 x 43800 = 1,314,000 watt-hours

Convert to kWh = 1,314 kWh

1 kWh = 1 unit

at 20p per unit = 1314 x 0.2 = £262.80

Not allowing different time of day tarriffs, tax, standing charges, direct debit discounts, etc.

Sorry not having this - 30W whilst not in use? That's a lot of heat going somewhere.

indeed, so it's made a saving on the heating bills that's not been allowed for.
