Due to an unreliable wireless chime, I bought
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004Z4UPMU/ref=...

to go with
http://www.kirkpatrick.co.uk/product/6597/bell-pul...
and
http://www.kirkpatrick.co.uk/product/6600/bell-cra...

all installed, works great.

B & Q sell wired battery ones, I bough one there a few years back as I hated the unreliability of the wireless one we had before.

If you're using a wired bell, make sure you get the connections the right way round - there's nothing worse than a dong before a ding.

My wife would kill me!

The doorbell arrived the other day but I've not had chance to fit it - looks OK for a tenner though.
Mentioned it because a house I visit has an honest to goodness train whistle as a doorbell. I swear you must be able to hear it two doors either way up the street.

After you "ring" you can hear the compressor starting up to replenish the pressure.

Now, I think I really want a Dukes of Hazzard horn for my front door now...

Fitted the doorbell yesterday and took some time to take a look inside it. It has a solenoid in it that strikes a bell so it sounds like an old fashioned fire engine - marvellous!

Why on earth would one need a bell on ones door?
