Is this bad?

Would seem to be an apt example of the definition of the phrase "giving up the ghost".
Either that or your drill has a poltergeist!

I remember seeing a Makita cordless drill on site for the first time in around 1984 (I think)

I remember thinking to myself that they'll never catch on, as I took another chunk out of my index finger with an errant Yankee

Best cordless I've ever had by far - Metabo. Wasn't cheap, but the amount of work done on a single charge is amazing.
I just brought of those. The guy in the shop (proper tool shop - Issac Lord) recommended it over Makita and all the others.

Haven't really used it in anger yet, so not sure whether he had a sales target to meet or whether it was a genuine recommendation.

I have a Metabo jigsaw and circular saw - top stuff, still going strong too.

The thing about threads like this is that they end up with people saying which tools they have and how much they like them. With few excepetions there isn't really a lot to choose between the decent makes in similar price ranges.

Agreed. A three hundred quid drill is a three hundred quid drill.

Just personal preference in most cases.

Cordless drills seem to attract levels of fanboy-ism that'd shame the tofosi.

dewalt, makita, hitachi etc are all much of a muchness, decent pro kit but made with an eye on price/competitiveness in a tough market, hence all have issues from time to time, makita had some bad battery issues and dewalt seem to have lost the ability to make a chuck properly..

Whether it's worth spending twice as much for say hilti is another law of diminishing returns debate
