there is a restriction on rubble, soil and hardcore which is 6 bags a month and asbestos which is 2 bags a month.
Really? What's their policy on enriched uranium?plug said:
Just started to or about to in Kent.
They aren't charging for DIY waste, there is now a limit on the amount of hardcore, rubble and soil you can take, think it's something like 90kg per visit, no limit on number of visits. They've started to charge for tyres though, £5 per pair and you can only take one pair at a time.
DIY waste is not classified as household waste so local councils are not obliged to take it. Most do, in small quantities, simply for an easy life/improved public service, but there's no obligation.
As a rule of thumb, household waste is 'stuff' which, if you moved house, you'd take with you. Which wouldn't, therefore, include kitchen units, bathroom fittings, internal walls, garden fences etc.

Just been to my local tip in my car, man sitting at gate gave me a leaflet with new charges £17 per 100kg, £35 per 200kg min. If i arrived with mixed waste it would be £35, s.
He asked what I had on board, a couple of bags of clothes a bag of old electrical crap & a glass table top. Oh you can't tip glass their will be a charge for that!
He let me in because the scheme has only started 1st Oct. I said fly-tipping is going to increase, Replied "yea I know its eu rules".
Most of the things you'll want to tip they'll charge. Last time i'll be going there. s!!!!

The leaflet mentions "changes in national legislation and policies". Does anyone know what these changes actually are?know doubt coming to a council near you.

Nothing. As I mentioned previously^^, they're just saving money by doing only what they have to do for free. Taking DIY waste (industrial waste) was a freebie in the past; with Council Tax frozen for the second year running, they're stopping things they don't need to do.My council does a free annual bulk waste collection day - when everybody puts out old beds, fridges etc, blocks the pavement, and the come and collect it. I think they will also collect on demand for free. They collected a load of asbestos for free as well, though the lack of care / PPE was pretty shocking.

I got a leaflet from my council saying that they were closing the local tip, which had until then been open seven days a week, for two days each week. This seemed to be somewhat contrary to the 'recycling initiatives' they're always banging on about so I e-mailed them and pointed out the paradox. A girl replied with some choice cut/paste stuff about recycling and how their tips were always accessible yada. I suggested she go and read her own leaflet in which opening hours are cut by 2/7ths.My two nearest tips are now shut on Thursday and Friday, and Wednesday and Thursday, and for osme reason those ae always the days I need to bin stuff!
But we do now all have cute little green plastic bins with a hinged top, about big enough for a bag of sugar, whch is for something I can't remember. I think the idea is that you collect something in the little green bin, then transfer it to the big green bin. Or possibly the big red bin we all have. That used to take the stuff we put in the big green bins, until that changed to the red bins and are collected on the alternate week to the other one. But which week is which I neither know nor care.
