Time to shop around a bit, methinks.

Also been told that we need to replace the gas supply. I wasn't there for the conversation, but apparently a standard domestic supply won't have enough pressure to supply what is effectively two houses? Does that make sense to anyone?

No - not the gas pipe - the bigger pipe below where his welly is - well disguised!
