Whatever provision for tool storage you make at the beginning of your journey will be overwhelmed time and again as the years pass by. I started out with a cantilever box from Woolworths as a teenager and could now do with another of the home made roll chests.
Totally agree I also planned to "grow into" which ever tool box I got so went for the largest top box Clark did, I did not once think it would be this full this quickly.Another vote for the Clarke HD.. had my cab for about 5 years and still as new with some heavy weekend use and 1 house move! The ball races have held up, no corrosion with the enamel in tact, nice rubber mats in the drawers and the drawers are super easy to take in and out
Would not hesitate to buy more from the same range
good luck!

I've got the 9 drawer version of the top box at work, it's been used every day for the last 3 years and it's sill like new.ROB_GTR said:
I have exactly that in my garage, bought it several years ago when a similar offer was running. It's absolutely ideal for my requirements, would definitely recommend it. Do get one wih ball bearing runners, wouldn't spend the big money for a fancy brand.
HOWEVER - think in depth how you will organise stuff inside it. I'd far rather have a cheap halfords rollercab with decent organisation than a snap-on with stuff chucked in.
I've got some of this type of thing : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3PC-SOCKET-HOLDERS-SOCKE..., rubber lined drawers etc. Not perfect, but organised and everything has a place.

Same here. It's very similar to Clarke's option IMO so it was a case of finding the best deal at the time I wanted to buy.miniman said:

I was tempted by that - anyone compared it to the Clarke 13 drawer one at £179? I'm not sure which has the more useful bottom cabinet.

Depends what you want to put in it!http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/...
I've used both, the large single-door one is handy if you have large stuff in cases (think grinders, drills, etc) that you want to store in the cabinet. If it's just larger hand tools, the drawers are more useful.
As I have the "cased" power tools on a shelf, drawers for me.
Edit - in my experience of comparison-shopping a few years back, the Halfords offer ones linked to and the Clarke HD ones are near-identical.

As for what I'd put into the bottom cabinet/drawers, probably not a lot as yet
