I currently have an old fold-up type at home. Is there any reason I shouldn't get an electronic roll-up version?

Can anybody recommend a firm to supply and fit two doors? Ealing in west London.

I have just ordered one for my self not much help as it is a Glasgow based company but very much so worth it for me i can not use my ramp with some cars as it will make contact with the door open so free's up 3 feet of head room for me. And being a auto door is worth it alone smile

A friend has just had one fitted and says his garage is now noticably warmer. He had a metal up and over door previously.

I've just fitted:

http://rollerdor.com/shop/index.php?main_page=prod...

I have to say it was a piece of cake to fit, it took no longer than three hours in total (including taking the old one down) and it just plugs into a mains socket. The remotes (x2) that came with it are better quality than expected for the money with a brushed metal case.

So far so good! smile

I had a Seceuroglide fitted by "the Garage Door Company", as doorman didn't cover my area (but he does sell the product).

It's great.

The only thing I would urge is that you make sure they check that the door they bring is the correct size _before_ they rip out your existing door.

Did any of you that have had roller doors fitted go for insulated doors? Are they worth the extra money?

My double garage is linked to my house by a connecting door and with the current up and over doors the wind whistles through the gaps in the doors into my study which is the other side of the interconnecting door. I've currently taped the interconnecting door up with masking tape which has helped. But it looks st and isn't very convenient.

Would standard roller doors fix this or should I look at insulated ones? Would insulated doors make it much warmer in the garage than non-insulated bearing in mind the garage is open to the rafters above with no insulation.

And how easy are they for a complete DIY numpty to fit?

I ordered two insulated ones from http://easyfitgaragedoors.co.uk/ very happy with them so far, easy to intsall, you need two people to hang the doors, but you can install the runners on your own.

we had the Garage door company fit a Securoglide insulated one a few years back

very impressed, works great, looks good, and stays pretty warm too

garage is attached one side to house, and is lined with insulated plasterboard + roller door, insulated tiled floor, even in winter, rarely drops below 5deg in there without any heating. A small 3kw fan heater brings it up to temp quickly if I have to spend time working in it

Out of interest what sort of price do these come in at? I have a double garage with standard up and overs at present (1 electric 1 not) and they are sealed very badly whilst also not being the best in terms of security so would like to change at some point.

It sounds like Seceuroglide is the one to buy, and everybody says doors are easy to fit. I'm a bit skeptical about the fitting but will consider it.

Thanks for all the help

Mine was £1300 for a single garage supplied and fitted with two key fobs, with the door colour matched (via RAL code) to our uPVC front door, and a rosewood surround on the brickwork to match the double glazing (the door was recessed relative to the original one to allow it to be "frameless" within the opening.

The Seceuroglide door is insulated, and fits snug all the way around in its frame, with a rubber pressure strip along the bottom. The garage I fitted it to is north facing and it definitely made a difference in terms of stopping the wind whistling through.

I don't have a spare £2600 so will have to make do with a draughty garage for now ;(

Sectional garage doors seem to be cheaper. Any reason why I shouldn't consider these?

I've just had a roller door fitted by a company in Cupar. £1300 fitted for a 12'2" x 7'2" non insulated single skin job.

Will be uploading pics of it in my garage build thread here soon

http://pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&amp...

eta: just realised you're in West London so price may be a more for you.

You wanted to fit it yourself, and you didn't mention any need for colour matching or additional surrounds. So I'm pretty sure you could get a double Seceuroglide supplied for less than £2600.

This was the one I bought a month or so ago to give you an idea of price, also the Oak colour was an extra £300.00 so you can knock that off of the total if you have a standard colour.

No I didn't. I wanted to know how hard they are to fit yourself wink
