Hi, well done on the project. I'm considering getting Residence 9 windows and have had one report of some problems in manufacturing quality. I can't find any further information online about this, so may be a one-off - would be great if you could let me know what you think of them? Installation, quality etc? Thanks for any info.
Didn't use plastic in the end. Went with Welsh locally made hardwood flush casement windows. There was a premium over the factory direct cost (but not over retail).

Thanks. I rake it you have the R9? You know it depends on the manufacturer. I looked at sourcing them from dekko windows in Stockport.

Resurrected from the dead.

Should have done this at the time but money was tight on the build and we wanted a contentious free garage application. The vendor of the land hadn't applied for a garage and the house had raised many objections as it was garden land.

So, mini project to raise the roof and put an attic room in the garage. External staircase to service the space.

Started Monday and progress so far:

Hardly took any photos as have been busy, but externally finished now. Just need skirting and flooring inside, plus mastic around frames. Also need to sort out some fire board for the lintels in the garage before the building regs come to sign it off.

Nice thread! I'm down the road in Shrewsbury (my sister is in Oswestry!), may I ask who did your block paving? We've just (well, Feb but after a year of no house, mess etc I've been sat on my backside enjoying life!) finished a massive build too & the only thing left to do is landscaping. The price you had for 300 sq/m seems very reasonable. TIA smile

Dave, my builder did it. How many sq metres do you have?

Hello to a local!

It only about 100 sq/m. Also need a fence erecting (about 20m) and the old front drive (concrete) breaking up & that area re-instating back to lawn. If you think they would be interested in quoting I can happily email them a site plan & pictures. Thanks for the reply smile

Another thread prompted me to resurrect this. Our house is now just over 10 years old, having moved in September 2013.

Work I've had to do.

A bit of sinkage near a tree on the driveway, had to be dug out and reset.
The shower in the main en suite, cartridge has been replaced.
Set of downlighters in the third ensuite replaced due to corrsion, plus a replacement beefier extraction fan (which we think left too much condensation).
Carpets on Stairs/Landing replaced with nicer quality stuff.
Decorated throughout 1.5 times.
Outside windows painted.
Outside bricklights failed one by one and I have replaced 4 of the 6.
Outside lanterns repainted a couple of times.
Couple of slipped slates.
Oven two replacement element (lack of use was the cause)
In built Microwave Oven replaced (rusted internally, known issue with cooking Jacket Potatos biggrin)
New gate control board and motor.
Extended patio to create a nice outdoor seating area that got the sun all day!

Not bad in ten years and most of it standard maintenance.

Biggest regret.

Too many BT phone points through the house. Ten years ago the demise of copper wasn't foreseen (at least by me). Now we have super fast broadband and no phone line!

Is self build still a thing?, not seen many threads recently.

Just seen this. Great thread and even though it's 10 years old, always a joy to read from start to finish in one sitting!
