Hello
I'm looking into getting one of these for our house/business.
We have a four storey B&B/house, and what we would like to do is to control the heating and water, but, also (if possible) have it "zoned" so if no one is in on a floor/in a certain room we can turn off the radiator with the system.
Is this possible? If so, with what system?
Thanks¬

How would Evohome detect if a B&B customer is in a certain room?
I don't believe it can, but you can control every zone manually using Evohome's smartphone app so you can set up and override automatic settings. There is a system called Heat Genius you might want to research as that has the ability to put PIR sensors in rooms to detect occupancy.
Hi all, not had chance to read the whole thread but wondered if anyone knew the answer to a question.
Basically there's very little in life that pisses me off, except being hot! My wife, despite explaining it on numerous occasions, cannot understand how a thermostat works. If she's cold (which is all the time), instead of advancing the heating to the temperature she wants she will just increase the temperature on the thermostat to 25 degrees (and more!) because "it heats up faster". She then forgets about it and the house is then absolutely sweltering - which in turn drives me absolutely nuts and causes massive arguments.
What I need is a thermostat whereby I can set an absolute limit - I can tolerate the house being 21 degrees but I basically want the thermostat to be locked out at 21 degrees maximum. Are there any of these wireless versions that will allow this?

Heatmiser Neo allows you to do what you want.Basically there's very little in life that pisses me off, except being hot! You can turn a lock on, it comes with a PIN number, so if your at the thermostat you can override the lock with a pin number if you dont happen to have your phone/app on you.
My missus is exactly the same.
That's perfect! That's also one of the options I was looking at. It's going to cause arguments as well but at least I won't be sweating during them!
Seriously, it's summer and she had the heating belting out last night at 24 degrees! Even our one year old son was wet through with sweat.

That's probably true with the latest thermostats as they usually modulate the heating as it approaches the set temp.Crumpet said:

If she's always cold aren't you going to have a lot or arguments if the max is 21C? It's 21.4C here in my home office and I've just closed the window as I felt a bit chilly! No idea if this is useful to anyone; the Hive units are 33% off at Screwfix this week: http://www.screwfix.com/c/heating-plumbing/central...

Yep, probably! But I can't bear it above 21 degrees and she could always put some more clothes on if she's cold. She has a freakishly low tolerance of cold (and I'm the complete opposite) but then the next minute she's moaning it's too hot. The temperature in the house is genuinely the cause of 3/4 of our disagreements!Sheepshanks said:

Was for me. Thank you.thread resurrection - and sorry didn't read from the beginning!
I am half way through an extension project that includes a new boiler and underfloor heating. So with the opportunity to ditch my 15 year old boiler and drag my thermostat into the 21st century I need a smart solution!
So requirements are that the thermostat fully controls both the heating, hot water and underfloor heating. Given we are an Apple household a solution that works with HomeKit is a nice to have (although not a deal breaker)
Thanks for any guidance

Evohome.
Presuming you have an existing house thermostat, you can control that, the new UFH zone(s) and DHW from one unit, and set time/setback temps etc. £600ish
You could also go the whole way and replace your existing radiator TRVs with smart ones and control all the rads that way, but it works out pricey (£45 per rad or so)

I'm also keen on taking the offer from BG but would like some advice if it will work for my home. Please keep in mind I'm a complete DIY newbie especially when it comes to plumbing!
My home is an "eco home" which has a small solar panel on the roof which helps heat water. There is a tank on the 1st floor in a cupboard and there's some switches/valves which I believe distributes the water up and downstairs. There's 2 thermostats in the house one on each floor. Boiler is in the kitchen and next to it is a programmable timer for which I've set on/off times.
Will this setup work with what British Gas is offering?

With UFH you'll have a thermostat in every zone. I have Heatmiser and it's all controlled via my phone usIng the Heatmiser NeoHub. I can control individual zones or all of them together very easily.I am half way through an extension project that includes a new boiler and underfloor heating. I've got v3 (well v2 but with the v3 connector which is compatible with home kit due to ship soon).
I have the extension kit plugged in to control hotwater too. Simply add another thermostat to control the underfloor heating (assuming it is a 2nd zone).
It has saved us a lot over the years and since the house move (to a house with a non combi) we've saved quite a bit on hat water too.
I want to install one of these Thermostats. I currently have a central heating system powered by a combi boiler and don't have a separate thermostat. I just use the bolier to set the time of the heating on or off.
If I want to install one of these do I need anything that doesn't come with just buying a nest stat from Amazon?
