I have a Vailant system boiler so am interested in this. Could you elaborate more perhaps?
You need a Vaillant VR33 add on board, sold in Holland. It hooks onto the main PCB.

It's obviously totally unsupported and possibly a warranty voider (if it's noticed)

Have a look on the automatedhome forums, a few people have done it.
Exactly that I can supply pics if you do it as the automated home stuff is all over the place
None of the wiring has been done as yet (I will only be using 1 x 2 port zone valve for HW) so how/hard easy it to wire Opentherm and get it working?

Plug in module into boiler and...?

Some pics would be great!

Hi all,

I have a 3 bed, 2 bathroom house which I'm renovating. It's my first project so have learnt a lot and still have a lot kore to learn.

I wanted to install a smart heating control solution but am not sure what is best or the most cost effective option.

I could just get nest and have 2 zones, upstairs and downstairs. Or if I can afford it, have each room set up as a zone. That would be 5 zones in total. 3 bedrooms and 2 additional zones downstairs. What would you suggest is the best product for someone on a tight budget?

What should I do about the bathrooms? One is an a small en suite, the other a family bathroom. I also have a small toilet under the staircase with a small radiator. How should I treat this? Just link it to one of the downstairs zones?

Thanks in advance.

Nest (one for each zone) would be about £400 for the parts, plus fitting (if you are getting someone to fit).

Evohome would likely be around £600 for your set-up but would allow granular control of each room as a zone.

Hive also does Multizone - supply only is about £270 for main controller and one additional. I have just taken this option but can't feedback as its not yet installed! Evohome for 10+ radiators gets very expensive

Finally - my Tado thermostat arrived today. All wired in, stat works as a basic stand alone thermostat (manual control). Internet bridge is setup and linked to my Tado account. But, I'm stuck at adding the thermostat onto my Tado account to use the app/intelligent features. I've put in the serial number and activation code, told it what my boiler is (Worcester 24CDi), and then it gives me the choice of booking an installer or DIY installation. I select DIY, and then it gives message saying:

"Unfortunately, there are no specific installation instructions available for your heating system yet. We will provide you with detailed installation instructions particularly for your heating system. If we have any questions, we will contact you soon.

We apologize for the delay in your installation. Thanks a lot for your patience!"

All I can do from there is return to the home screen, which won't go any further than telling me I have an unfinished installation, and offers me to resume it, which just goes round in circles.

Any one else had this issue? I'm not paying their £90 fee for a 'professional' to come and install a bloody thermostat when I've already done it myself in 10 minutes!

I have Evohome on 12 zones, including one underfloor heating zone. Also on hot water. Worcester 35 system boiler with 300 litre invented hot water cylinder.

Been living with it for a few months, and it really is very good for really detailed control, and very intuitive to use. Batteries are showing about half full on shour me of the rad controllers though - not great for half a winter's use...

I've found they last roughly 12 months. The original batteries will probably be pretty cheap too, so expect better lifespan with duracell etc. We buy Procell or Duracell Industrial in bulk now. hehe

I bought a bunch of low self discharge rechargeable AA's to use in the Tado TRVs, seem effective so far.

On the subject of Tado TRVs, has anyone else had any early failures / doa's? Out of 15 I've had 2 replaced - one which wouldn't pair (I'm slightly sceptical on this one as it was the first one I tried to pair - wonder if it was a DB thing, either way they couldn't sort it remotely) & another which wouldn't calibrate properly.

Seems to be working well other than that.

I've been a tado user for over 3 years now. I think I had one of the early beta kits. It's been great except for constant problems with the temperature sensor. It never charges! Sunlight or USB, neither work! I'm on my 4th kit in these 3 years now.

Kicked off this week when it happened again. Asked about upgrading to the smart thermostat and injector kit, at least that just uses aaa batteries. They suggested it might be a free upgrade. I'm waiting for the account people to call me on a Monday.

Has anyone else been upgraded for free?

They tried to charge me for the upgrade and I said to just leave it.

A couple of weeks later the new kit came through the post.

I haven't paid the monthly subscription for two years either :s

Mines been in for almost two years, some are still on their original batteries, some aren't.

One of the try's got knocked by the dogs and broke the adaptor ring, evohomeshop don't do replacements, so I contacted honeywell directly, and got two free in the post. Impressed by that in these days of normally piss poor customer service.

I installed 10 of these last week - I just had a slight problem pairing one of them, it took 10 mins to pair for some reason but left the app open on my iPhone and it paired eventually. They all seem to be working fine so far, no problems to report.

Is anyone using the Drayton miGenie Controller and thermostat ?

I installed one before Christmas as a direct replacement for the existing BG UP1 controller, all has been working well until this morning, the rads were tepid, but the controller and wireless stat signed the the boiler was fired, yet the green LED on the controller wasn't lit, nor was the boiler.

Using the app, and enabling the boost saw the heating kick in as expected.

I'm also noticing that the controller is firing the boiler for under 30 seconds, when not requested by the stat, every 30-40 mins, which I presume is extending the pump overrun.

Now for possible strange part, on Friday night the boilers fan motor failed, meaning it was intermittently firing, so it was replaced with a new one yesterday morning and the boilers been working fine since, and shouldn't have any affect on the controller, boiler is an 18 year old ideal Classic FF260 if that makes any difference.

As you can see, the wall plate connection are exactly the same for the new and old controllers;

Any ideas if these 2 events could be connected ?
