using your iphones location services it would be nice if your thermostat knew when you were coming home so turned on your heating for when you arrive...

Been running a Wifi Heatmiser since before Christmas - absolutely does what it says on the tin and not had any issues with the WiFi or the radio connection to the switch box.

Being able to turn the heat up on the house in advance of returning from holiday is great and the web-interface allows easy programming.

I've always been a bit wary of the wireless systems, specifically with range - that Housetech one for example talks about a "35m" range - assuming that's perfect lab conditions and not through half a dozen walls, then it'd degrade pretty quickly in a larger house. Sonos hifi gets around such things by using a Mesh network, but I haven't yet seen any of these thermostats that do much the same.

I've been looking at the Heatmiser ones, and whilst I like the idea of the ease of wifi, I can't help but think the wired options are more robust.
Our office is split over 3 floors and everything talks to each other perfectly wirelessly.
I have three wireless APs to cover the house, as I have yet to find one which will do the lot!

Still no date for the nest thermostat. Although I have a feeling I may be purchasing a Nest Protect for the new build smile

This was posted last February, they are still saying it will be out soon.

Denmans wholesalers have now dumped them as a supplier since Megaman took them over, I think lightwave may be a contender for "companies going bust in 2014"

I have a zwave setup in the house; veralite controller, a few sensors and switches controlling lights. I have this zwave thermostat, just not yet wired it in. http://www.vesternet.com/z-wave-horstmann-wall-the...

They are putting them into a selection of houses to check that they work well with UK set ups prior to the launch.

I doubt the nest setup will be cheaper, considering the rental option, will take 3 years to be the same cost and I'm sure something shinier/better will be an option before then!

Placed my order for a Tado a couple of weeks ago, delivery expected mid-Jan & free install as it was ordered before the end of 2013, will report on how well it works & savings etc once it's up & running. Went for the yearly rental option as they promise £120 yearly savings or your money back - if it does save that much we can always take up the option to buy a year down the line.

The problem with lots of these internet based thermostats including Nest and Heatmiser they require 240v connection so if you don't have one that will involve hacking the plaster out to run wires and I didn't really want that having just painted.

The Salus IT500 is standalone and requires no mains to the thermostat on show.

Thanks, that would be great.
