My normal thermostat has given up.

I'm not sure I can buy outside of the Google ecosystem, and the nest certainly has the best long term development potential, however I'm not sure I can bring myself to buy a nest at the moment, when there are 3 or 4 other, better products on the market which are cheaper!

Why not rent a Tado for a year and see how you get on? I got mine on an offer a month or so ago - Works out at £3 p/mth.

Not quite so attractive now at £6.99 / month and you have to pay for a year up front frown

You can send it back at any point and get a pro-rata refund but yes agreed no where near as attractive as it was! I've also read that they will refund 6 months worth of rental payments if you decide to purchase it outright.

Gave our heating a try today and found the receiver for the wireless thermostat has failed. Poxy thing is barely 18 months old. I'm guessing the receiver isn't available separately so am considering changing to the Honeywell evohome. Anybody else got this?

Trying to understand what the new Tado box offers over the old one?

Does it sit in place of the current box? Does it still use the wireless sensor?

It appear to replace te control box. No good for me as thats in the airing cupboard (near to the pumps)

Reading some stuff online, indicates they may be going to zoning soon, perhaps these things can all talk to eachother so I could just choose to add another one.

We have a Remeha Avanta Plus

http://www.remehaheating.co.uk/installer/wp-conten...

and its controlled by this naff looking thing:

http://www.jhplumb.com/system/brand_attachments/90...

Its a battery powered, mechanical thermostat and it triggers the boiler remotely. I think from reading the Avanta plus manual that we must be able to wire one of these smart WiFi thermostats somehow.

Question is, do I switch my current nPower tarrif to the smart tarrif where they will come and fit you a Nest (Free of charge). Or do I pay for the IMO better Tado/Tado2?

Can anyone in the know gloss over that boiler manual and just confirm if I can use a different thermostat? Its got a blanked off plate where the wireless RF module goes in place of the normal controls.

The new box with the display is the wireless thermostat, and is used to replace your existing (non Tado) thermostat, and can be used to control ONLY your heating. If you want to control the hot water you need the extra box that connects to the boiler. The “New” wireless thermostat (with display) can then be used to control the whole system, instead of your phone, although I’m lead to believe some config is still only via the web site.

So the new cost for the system is £199 just for the thermostat, but if you want to control the hot water as well is £199 + £79 = £278. So you will be paying more for the new system if you want to control the heating and water. Which makes sense because you are now getting more functionality.

What I would like to know is can you just buy the new thermostat and will that talk to the old tado control box connected to the boiler and control heating and water, but it would be a costly solution just for local control of the system for someone with the old tado solution.

I saw the new control box after I posted. I have my current tado controlling both heating and hot water. The display isn't much use as the current box is in place of the timer in the utility room. We rarely need to have manual control as if both the wife and I are out then there is the iPad at home that is setup to control things anyway.

I'm 9 months into having it now and am pretty convinced on Tado as a solution. I am trying to find out what is involved for me to take ownership rather than rent.

I'd quite like the new box where my wireless one is now, but I'm not sure I'd want to loose the fact that its solar powered - there is no power on the wall where I've put it, as I've not taken their normal installation path of replacing the existing thermostat - because the hot water control is in the airing cupboard.

Looks like it can also be powered by batterys. Still not received a email offering any discount from using the original Tado

I have a Tado v1 working really well at home. I have linked it into home automation and other stuff.
Noticed that they have the V2 out from Monday with physical controls. As I rent the system, I have placed an order for the new one ~£60 (6months credit to purchase price if you can change from rent to purchase) and I can return the old one for the balance of the unused 1st years rental. No brainer!

I have a v1 that i rented in February I can't understand how you got it for £60? It's £199 for the v2 box and then £79 for the control box?

Alrighty then, Ive got my Bosch / NeFit Easy installed and running.

It was very, very easy to do. I had to change the backing plate for the thermostat and install a communication module for my boiler. 30mins physical work and some wire splicing. Once the thermostat was plugged in all I had to do is input the WiFi password and sync it to our phones / tablets.

Great smile

Only thing left to do is sort a backing surround to cover up the unpainted section of wall.

The Sw looks to be very good indeed, with an easy to use clock program, learning functions, proximity operation etc. Hot water can be set to clock program or automatic. Its got all the usual holiday functions and you can of course remote access to warm the house up before you return.

There are lots of extra functions (e.g. gas monitor) planned for release this year.

Total cost was €200 for the thermostat and €35 for the comms module. We absolutely cane our gas in the winter, so hoping this will pay itself back rather quickly yes

Is that the same as the Worcester Bosch wave you can get over here? Looks very similar.

Tado back on offer at £6/month.

After bleating on about nest and Google, I'm actually going to go for this. £60 for the year isn't much money, and it gives Google enough time to bring out a new nest, which I'm sure is in the works!

Need to talk to them about how much I've paid! Would like the new version...
