Could you not just move the thermostat around? Does it have to be wall mounted?
It is one device that connects to the wiring, so you can't move it around irrespective of wall mounting.

Thats what the extension box is for.

Works out expensive though at either £79 outright or an extra £2.99 a month. Pricey option just to have the thermostat portable.

The Salus IT 500 I fitted earlier in the year has been great. Portable room stat, phone app, different temps throughout the day, switch off when away with button press on phone, runs water and CH, in fact all the functionality I need.

Pretty good VFM for £130 and no ongoing subscriptions

If you have the extension unit, you can put the thermostat / control unit wherever you want as it's battery powered. That's how mine is setup.

OK I've been down to maplin and bought this:

It looks different to the one on the Tado website, is this a V1?

It has a solar powered temperature sensor in the box? Can I carry that around with me?

If it is the V1 should I take it back and buy a V2?

That is a V1. Looking at Maplins price I would take it back for a refund and get a V2.

The temp sensor is supposed to be mounted away from heat and sunlight so I wouldn't have it portable but you could if you wanted I suppose

Excellent, thanks for that. Mine was dispatched yesterday so looking forward to having a play!

Bit pissed with Tado.

My sensor has totally failed. To get a replacement I have to send it off before they will send a replacement!

Yeah the V2 is £50 cheaper but doesn't seem to have the solar powered sensor?

So V1 might be better for me...

Any other operational difference between the 2?

I've had my Tado about a week now. I'm really happy with the system and the ability to be able to control the heating when I am away from home. Sadly the phone feature doesn't work great on my phone as I work close to home and travel around so it would always think I'm coming home when in fact I'm just driving close to home. I have set the wife's phone up and it works well and I just manually control it from my phone.

I installed the system myself and followed the online guide which had it working very quickly and no need to phone anyone.

Sadly the device has one temp sensor which is built into the thermostat on the wall. I'd have preferred to have one that I could carry to each room as in a morning I am waking up and the bedroom is far to hot so having to adjust individual radiators etc.

Overall very happy but not convinced it will save any money but an extra gadget to play with smile
Get the extension box, then the thermostat is wireless.

I believe if you log a ticket with Tado they can reduce the sensitivity of the proximity sensor as well...

The extension unit allows you to control the hot water as well.

The V1 and V2 have the same functionality if you buy the extension unit. The main difference being the ability to control some of the settings from the new thermostat, but why would you when you can use your smart phone from anywhere?

Anyone got the Worcester Bosch wave? Looks the same as the one the chap from Norway posted on here a while back. Problem is it says the Wave only works with certain Worcester boilers? Is this true or is it just a switch?

I've got the Salus thing and I hate it.

http://www.needheatltd.co.uk/gas-boilers/internet-...
The Wave is the same as my Nefit Easy (im not Norwegian!!)

It will work with any OpenTherm protocol boiler, although you may need the extra adaptor depending on the model.

Its made by Bosch ThermoTechnik and is sold under various names in different markets... ive been using it since April and have zero complaints.
Sorry ! Thanks for the reply :-)
No worries.

I have not seen any mention of the 'adaptor' with respect to the UK market Worcester Wave editions... here its very easy to come by... so depending on what boiler you have, you might find it best to order yourself an adaptor from outside the UK.

example:

http://www.installand.nl/shop/verwarming/thermosta...
Just had the Worcester Wave fitted with a new Worcester Bosch combi in daughter's house. I asked the installer about fitting Nest but he'd never heard of it. Wave has only been out in the UK (I didn't know it was sold elsewhere) for a month or so.

Seems to be working fine but haven't got the hang of what the weather compensation is doing. It takes control of the flow temp, apparently.

I'm a bit miffed that the installer recommended and fitted a WB 28i Junior boiler - I should have looked into it a bit more especially with going for the Wave. WB does 4 boiler all about the same rating with only about £100 difference in price - the dearer ones have modulating pumps which should work better with weather compensation than fixed speed pumps.

For me it's more the ability to look at the temperature at a quick glance - that's the exact reason I kept my old digital thermostat just sitting there almost in the same spot as the Tado, telling me the temperature.

Happy to answer any questions. We aren't using it to control hot water as ours is an unvented megaflow HW system. I gather there may be workarounds, but given the excellent insulation in megaflows and similar systems, I'm not sure there would be much in the way of savings or increase in convenience doing this.
Thanks!

Is it not compatible with a megaflow as the property I'm moving into also has one of these, from what I read it has an additional sensor that has to be attached to it, or is this incorrect

Also as some of the rooms have two radiators how do you get around this, can you have two thermostats and still have it as one zone?

Have you noticed any reductions in gas usage and overall how we'll does it work?

Thanks again!

Worth giving Honeywell a call about the water - they may well have brought something new out that deals with megaflows. It wasn't an option when we installed our evohome.

There are two ways to deal with a room with multiple radiators - you can make one of the TRVs the sensor for the room and the others slaves, or use a room thermostat. We use both solutions - the bathrooms have either two towel rails or a rail radiator combination - being smaller rooms there is no need for a room stat, so one of the TRVs acts as the sensor.

Our living areas are larger however, so we have room stats that give you the ability to move them to the optimum position to set the room temp from.

We are using oil, and I think we are making substantial savings. I say think because we've had a much warmer summer this year, so our oil company had been reporting a widespread reduction in deliveries that matches our experience. We were on a top up schedule and I've had to cancel several orders.

We also have a three month old baby, and one of the bedrooms is set permanently at a temp, rather than scheduled like the other kids bedroom, so I would have expected more consumption because of this. Instead we still seem to be using less.

I'll have to run the system for a year to know for sure, but I think it'll pay for itself in 2/3 years easily.

Thanks, I think I will stick with V1. Like the idea of a battery less portable temp sensor.

If I got a V2, to achieve the same functionality it seems that I would need the extension kit and pay for professional installation because the extension kit has to be wired into the boiler. And to have the thermostat be portable I would then need to keep changing batteries in it rather than the solar powered V1 version.

Still waiting to set it up, my old room thermostat is not listed so had to email photos but it seems like they've gone home for the weekend frown
