I think you only have to correct support if you can't work through a set of instructions on the website.
Lots of stuff online saying there isn't an upgrade path so I'm a bit concerned about knstaing it and having no heating / hot water all weekend - got guests this evening!

Thanks mate, I'll have a look this evening then, providing I can figure the wirkbg layout. But annoying I've moved from standRd backplate to Tado v1 5 months ago now back to a standard plate!!

Likewise, I did mine last night after a few glasses of cider so it can't be that hard. wink

No need to contact support, it's all explained and activated online.

Nest sales guy at John Lewis High Wycombe was laughable today, no knowledge of how central heating works or how to answer my fairly simple questions.

And no he wasn't JL he was from Nest! I pity anyone who bought after talking to him.

Thought this might interest a few of a few of you.......

I've been testing having multiple NEST thermostats around the house to achieve a semi zoned system, but with a single heat link so calling for heat is easier. This isn't documented in any of the instructions or guides that I have seen so far....

The heat link not only supplies power, but will communicate via it's 12v supply. I've managed to connect a NEST up via wireless initially and then connect a second and third via fixed wiring. This will enable you to call for heat from multiple locations until heating is satisfied. If you want more control, you can use electronic TRVs to shut off the RADs to various locations as they near target temp....

I've paid for Hive installation this morning...

First installation date available was 5th Jan, so have gone for that.

Seems to get good reviews and do what I want of it. Will see how I get on.

You have to hard wire it. Or via zigbee protocol.

Hello all, looking for some help here.

I have been looking at Tado and it seems the best for me (I want to rent it to see how I get on first of all)

The one query I have which the website doesn't seem to answer is about the location of the thermostat.

I live in a Dormer bungalow, the current thermostat is downstairs but our living area is upstairs so I would like the temp sensor to be upstairs. Does the Tado kit come with this wireless sensor or would it run off the same sensor location I currently have?

Thanks.

It can do both, but if you want a wireless solution you need the extension kit as well.

Having just spoken to a lovely helpful person on livechat at Hive, I have found that the Hive system has a wireless thermostat standard and is £159 vs the Tado @ £270 (or £105 for a years rent) Hmmmm....

Different features though? Not sure Hive is location aware, although I think they've added hot water now?

They have added hot water yes. I'm not too worried about the location aware feature. Just remote control of the heating system, programmable times etc.

I've just noticed that the Heatmiser NeoStat now supports geo-localisation like the Tado does, and it works with multiple zones (unlike the Tado) so looks like the most suitable for my use.

Can anyone comment on how well it all works? It's £265 for a 2 zone kit

I have had a single zone HeatMiser for 2 years now. To be honest it has never worked properly, sometimes thinks the temperature is 22 when it's more like 18 & visa versa. Also loses WiFi & needs frequent re-boots which is difficult from thousands of miles away.

New Hive thermo going in on Thursday.

It's not automatic though. It just tells you that you have gone out and you have to manually turn the heating off. It should be automatic

Do the geofencing apps use the phone's GPS or do they use wifi router and cell tower locations? And if you only work 5 miles from home can the system react fast enough?

They access the phones location API, not so much the GPS or the wifi or the whatever.

So it'll do an API call on a regular basis. With Tado you can control how "sensitive" it is (comfort vs economy) - which I suspect will give enough fidelity for you. To give you some idea, Tado knows when I go across town to tesco (couple of miles) and shuts the heating down.
