Update time!

Works going well on the ground floor, so far all plastering work is done and all woodwork is painted ready for wall papering, which meant a trip to the wall paper supplier! Started off with 48 rolls (all they had in stock at the time) which is a paintable patterned paper to go from the dado rail to the cornice in all rooms, then going to use some nice proper paper under the dado level.

So far the halls papered with it, so is bedroom 6 and 7, just bedroom 5 to do now! Then paint then the lower gesture paper.

Bedroom 7 is coming on well, and starting to come together.

Also had some help doing the Windows, all of them needed completely removing, stripping to bare wood, reprinting, replacing sash cords and refurbishing the frames, also needed a lot of new parts fabricated up, missing trims, weight pocket covers, beads etc, so the workshop came in handy again! There was another 8 Windows done and refitted, looking great!

Oh, and the door factory is going again!

And how bedroom 7 looked before we stated work

Update!

Flooring went down in ensuite 6 and 7 today, decided to keep it simple, as the rooms are too small for fancy borders etc. Just went for a nice contrast colour to tie in with the wet wall colours.

I like the floor tiles - where did you get them? We are looking for something similar.

Thanks,
Paul

Cheers Hugh!

We moved in a few months ago now, July in fact.

3 out of the 4 floors are completely finished now, and the ground floor is coming on well too.

Cheers Paul,

The floor is Karndean knight tile range, T102 I think with a kp40 oak design strip.

After having this thread bookmarked for a few months I finally read though it all last night.

All I can say is well done! Equal amounts of crazy and craftsmanship!

You mentioned way back that you still had some rooms locked up/unexplored. Is this still the case? (Surely not!)

Hadn't seen this until it was linked from the "help me fix my stairs" thread. Amazing stuff. Really feels like the building has been rescued. Ironic that the very people who enforce planning on the rest of us actively made such a pigs ear of it. Would be great to invite a few teachers from the school, and perhaps some of the children, to see what you've done.

Cheers mate!

It's been a slog, but I like to think we've added a few more years to the old girls life expectancy!

Been working laying flooring today, managed to get almost 50m2 down, with some help from my wife and a mate!

Here's one room, looking almost finished!

In so many of your 'before' pictures it's very hard to imagine the building as anything other than 'civil service' and soon to appear in one of those Urbex threads falling apart.

It's been said before but you've genuinely breathed new life into that building. It is unrecognisable.

So who's going to have a guess at what it will be worth when finished?

Isn't it a 1000m squared building? Based in X county

Nah. Too crass, IMO.

Griff's done a cracking job and worked his behind off in the process. We enjoyed the updates and he now has an amazing home to enjoy.
