I wish!

I am always amazed at how low tech heating controls are - I know things are changing slowly but given the cost of energy there is a huge market there
I imagine that's largely because it's a necessity purchase for 90% of buyers; as a product it's simply not sexy enough to have a 'want one' factor outside of a nice market. 'Climate control' type systems are much more prevalent in markets where domestic air conditioning is common too.

That's clearly just starting to change with a few products shooting for mainstream appeal.

I just put in a funding bid to work on this very problem. Despite huge industry support (very rare), it got rejected. Not sexy enough when you're competing against Graphene and the like...

Another update, as things are starting to progress nicely now. It's great, pretty much solely putting new things in, rather than ripping out and really starting to see some progress now.

So, finished ply sheeting the entire 3rd floor, ready for carpets. The floor boards were not horrendous, but were never going to be good enough for a decent long lasting finish on the carpets. So decided to ply sheet the entire floor with 9mm ply. Also helped raise the floor level up where the steel foot plates of the beams protruded through the floors as an added bonus!

So, 66 sheets of 8x4' ply later....

Also had the fish tank delivered, which meant the call out to friends. A lot of friends! The tank is 6ft long, x 30" high and 30" deep, built in 1/2" thick glass with a 1" thick base.. Took 6 of us to lift it and carry it up the stairs into the house. It was days like this where a big hall and 1100mm wide doors really comes in handy!

Anyway, from the kitchen side it's now ready for some oak trims to finish it off, and looks like this..

For The other side of the tank, we have had some timber doors made up and painted in the same colour as the finished woodwork in a simple panel style to match the style of the house. I made a bespoke frame for them to sit under Neath the tank and also used a kitchen vertical lift system for the above tank doors, so that the whole assembly lifts vertically upwards to get access to the tank. System works well, but I'm going to have to up the pressure rating of the gas lifts as the doors are just a bit too heavy for them. Main thing is that I can start to get the lounge looking as I want it to! Also ply sheeted out the bottom and back of the cupboard underneath to make a useful storage area for the fishy crap that goes with the tank!

Lounge side

Lastly, after a slightly longer wait than expected! The hand made leaded glass transom has arrived and been fitted. Looks fantastic, and is now the only piece of double glazing in the entire house!

Next jobs are to fit the made to measure painted doors over the dining area / fuse box 2 cupboard, tidy down upstairs and sweep the entire second floor so as to try to cut through the stour levels in the house, then I've got the stops to go on the new doors upstairs and final coats of paint on the doors, ready for the hardware to go on. That's all that's planned before a day off for Christmas Day! Planning on being back Boxing Day working though.

On a separate note, thanks to everyone making some great, helpful and generally positive comments about the work we are doing. If I don't get a chance to answer everyone, please be assured they are all read by both my wife and I and all appreciated!

Superb! Love the fish tank.

Are you planning on double glazing the rest of the house, or should I invest in British Gas shares?

Just a brilliant thread. You can really appreciate the hard work (& tears) that have gone into making this a beautiful home.

Better get onto the British gas site then :-) going with the existing windows and wooly jumper route! It's know as 'character' apparently.....

Cheers MB!

Looking forward to the day it's classed as a home and not a building site!

Managed a few bits today, didn't get too much done as had to go christmas food shopping, got 15 people round on Thursday, so needed to brave the supermarket killer grannies! Made it safe and sound, did some joinery work to calm my nerves! And pit the main feature stair light together!

Hung some new made to measure doors over an old open, sort of shelved now a fuse board cupboard. Improved the look now end! Just need to form a plinth panel for it

Cheers, it was imported from Turkey last year as a Christmas present I bought for my wife, figured I'd better make sure it was fitted and lit by this Christmas or I'd have to put a birthday candle on it!

Sorry for lack of updates, been pretty mad here with Christmas etc, but back working now! At least I am until the 5th jan, when I go back to work....

Quick update on the master ensuite. The tilers done a sterling job for me, and despite me specifying the most PITA tiles, and then scaring him with the cost of the hand made painting tile features, he's pretty much done, just ready for some more joinery work of units to fit, and then get the plumbing complete and final fixed!

Trial fit of the outer bath frame to see what it looks like!

Sink wall, will have two wall mounted basins and matching mirrors

Does the bath just sit on the floor and it's weight stops it moving?

Pretty much, the bath has an outer shell of fibre glass and the main bath sits within it on a leg frame set. The whole thing is held in place with silicon. When filled it'll never move!

Interesting Klimpt tiling decor. It's kinda right for the application. Like it. As a bulding surveyor of 26 years standing I can appreciate the massive project that this has been/is. Big respect fella. 2015 will see it as a home. Your updates can then stop (until you post pics of the PH opening party. BTW, my invite hasnt arrived yet, perhaps the post is a bit slow down this way. wink

Being based in a suburban area of the English South Coast, it is inconceivable to imagine that houses of this size actually exist!

What an incredible place, looks like it may require some clever interior design to make use of the very large rooms. Though it seems you certainly know what you are doing.

Looking forward to the future updates and thanks for sharing.
