Imagine having left your phone upstairs whilst hearing it ring from downstairs; if you can even hear it ring could you get to it in time? About the most PH problem imaginable rofl
Nope, she properly broke it! Of course didn't at first realise it, just thought it was really sore, eventually went to get an xray and found it had a stress fracture!

To her credit, she never stopped working with me on the house the whole time! I fully realise I've married wonder woman!

I always thought to myself what a lovely wife you must have.

Non-sequential fivers are my favourite

WE ARE RICH!

We were clearing out the crap between the joists in the top floor, ready to put insulation in, when we found this buried in the rubble!

The classic, wallet full of cash! Well £18 of cash, but hey it's a start.

Looking at the dates of some of the stuff in it we are guessing around 1970, so it's been buried there for 45 years.

What's worrying for the guy is that there's one of his wage slips in there, his nett wage was £42 so I can only imagine the conversation with his wife when he lost half his wages in one day!

Oh, and some 70's porn pics of his missus! Maybe...

At least there wasn't any 45 year old condoms in there too! Great little finds, which will get framed and put in the room for a momento!

That's cool, I have a Penny from 1942 that I found in the floor and one from 1907 that was in the garden. Not quite £18.

I did manage to cash in about £100s worth of scrap lead and copper where the plumbing had been updated and the old pipe left in place though.

I like how you're going to frame his missus to bring joy to your man cave for another 45 years. Bet she never thought the picture would end up on display in such a way!

That is very cool. Any ID from his wage slip to be able to try to trace the owner (or heirs..)?

How about actually flattening out the wallet and putting that in a frame. nice smile

i'd also be tempted to sink a large tv in the wall in (one of) the halls with a endless loop of all the restoration photos smile

Man cave update!

All the framing, plasterboarding and flooring is now complete. The wc is formed and first fixed for plumbing, just got to final fix the outer sheets in place once a waste pipe is run in the new partition wall, then all ready for the tapers to start Monday. Sparky is also in today cutting out holes for the recessed ceiling lights. Loft hatch is in and fitted, just need to put some finishing trim around it, and also form the coombe access hatch covers.

Next jobs are, second fix electrical, painting, fit out the bar, skirting boards, new door, hardware for WC, firm bulkhead in WC for a concealed cistern, fit out the bar, window sill, renovate and restive, paint the window, carpets, fit out the bar etc etc

Been in seeing the carpet guys, and bloody hell carpets getting expensive ! The best quote for a simple polypropylene carpet after much haggling has come down to £1700, first quote for a nice Brinton (£26 all inclusive) came in at £3100!!! Works out to just over a 100m2 roll is needed, and a few joins too. Snooker table is booked for mid April, and I've ordered the materials for the bar units, so hoping to have it fully finished by end of March, depending on how much time I can get in there, as it's a pretty busy time of year at work, and that has to come first!

Pictures!!

What sort of speaker system / amp / surround / TV are you going for up there?

I love this thread.

When are you marketing your current property? Do you have a move in date appearing in your mind?

I'm not sure on the exact spec yet, as I haven't bought it yet! I've got an onkyo amp in the lounge and a marantz amp in the TV room, and I slightly prefer the onkyo, so will probably go for another for up here. To be honest it's a slight difference as I'm definitely not an audiophile! Speakers, again not sure, probably monitor audio floor standers on a 5.1 set up, with centre and active subwoofer. Will have a sky hd + box! Apple TV, playstation and xbox one as well as a Sonos zone player connected into the sound system. Not sure yet whether to go for ceiling speakers as well on a seperate zone connected to the existing Sonos system, probably not, depends on budget. TV/projector it'll be a 1080p HD projector, I've got an optima in the TV room, so might stick to the same brand, showing on either a 98" or 128" screen. Width isn't a problem, but as the ceiling is slightly lower than normal the drop might be on the really huge screens. I'm not sure whether to fit a normal wall mounted tv as well as the projector, can't really see when I would use it TBH. the bar will have its own smaller tv as well.

I'm off to search on richer sounds now!

Hi GB,

it's already on the market. I was hoping to be in end of March, and TBH we probably still could, it's just why rush to move in before it's fully ready. Snagging that is getting down now because it's on my list and the rooms are empty suddenly gets forgotten when you've moved in, so I want to get it as close to the impossible 100% mark before I move in, unless of course we sell the other property suddenly, and have to move in! I've delayed the carpets until last week of March in order to give myself enough time to get the man cave at least 90% finished and ready for kitting out. The tapers start on Monday, decorating to be done straight afterwards, then radiators (being delivered Wednesday 4 x 1200 x 700 stelrad K2's) electrical spec quotation back from suppliers for all sockets, light fittings, 5 amp sockets, euro plate modules etc etc, so hoping to get that done in the next two weeks, then carpet fitted. Oh and install the bar of course! So it's achievable!

Dolby Atmos is the latest. Depends how much you want to focus on the surround sound. I've 5.1, but i'm stuck with a lounge and having to hide cable. If I had more options, I'd have more of a setup.

Good luck with the house sale. Hopefully it sells when needed but doesn't cause a rush.

Amazing house, the fact you've done huge chunks of it yourself is properly cool.

I'm very jealous and don't like you.

While those radiators are a great spec (I have them in my house), is your man cave not crying out for a lovely wood burner as well?

The radiators are great for quick heat in what I presume will be more of an occasional room, but if you're planning to watch a film or having friends over, it'll be better with fire.
