Ouch! Just checked my invoice and our installation fee was £400. Door, window and other accessories were within 10's of £'s of the listed price.

Just double checked and it was an older price list I'd been looking at, the current retail is about £2400 inc vat so it's about £500 for fitting. Still think I'll buy the equivalent Garador, fit myself and save £1-1.5k.

And the price is in!

Just under £2900 for a TPS700 fitted, that's just the door no transom lights or side panels. Considering the Garador equivalent is about £1500 online (and Hormann £1700) I won't be supporting local business in this case.
Ouch. Just checked my invoice and i paid (ordered Nov 2012 - fitted Jan 2013) £2700 inc VAT for the TPS 700 with 2 Hormann aluminum-framed side windows (which were approx £4-500 each from memory), uprated internal handle (aluminum instead of white plastic) and SBD locking (approx £80) and electric catch (i think that's what they call it?).

Are you going for a colour?, as this adds a few quid to the cost (approx 20% from memory)

I'm paying about that for a TPS 850, fitted, in a custom size, in colour and with the electric strike option. It's a new design, about an inch thicker than the normal TPS 700 and 900 and lists about 30% more expensive, so new in fact that the local dealer didn't have the new brochure or prices for it when I popped in, so had to call Hormann to get the list prices (which he told me there and then before working out a quote for what I wanted). It would therefore appear your local supplier is taking the pee to a large extent frown.

I've had a look at the Garador website and noticed that their FGS 010, 020 and 030 (equivalent to the TPS of the same number) they do are available in an extra standard size that Hormann don't list (844x2095) which would appear to make them suitable for doorways with 30" doors (thinking of my back door here, which also needs replacing when my bank account is refilled a bit) without the premium cost for a custom size.

MCSL, that is stunning with the side panels. Love it! I'm going for anthracite grey which attracts an extra £120 but even with that and the SBD upgrade the price is still about £1536 supplied for the Garador equivalent. It's a no brainer for myself to order it online now, especially seeing the reasonable prices you guys have managed to get. Definately makes my quote seem very, very expensive.

Can I ask where you're getting your prices from - I don't mind having a go at installing a new back door myself.

Getting them from here http://www.garagedoorsonline.co.uk/index_new2.php?...

I phoned to ask the fella originally if there was any difference between the Hormann and Garador, they are the exact same product. I then asked how easy the doors are to fit, he said they are very easy and that's the reason why they are willing to sell them online. If you need extra clearance for plaster lines you can get 25/50mm extension pieces and if you need to raise the door to suit flooring then you get a 30mm packing strip. They seemed very good when I called, it's not often someone will admit there is no difference between two products when they also sell the more expensive one!

I'm definately getting one for my garage when it's built, look how cheap you can get this for http://www.garagedoorsonline.co.uk/product_details...

The deed is done fellas!

Garador FGS 700 ordered online, colour is Anthracite grey and got the SBD upgrade too. I ended up ripping out the door/frame last week and found the door was packed out behind the render with 22mm timber all round. So I'll be able to get a joiner to trim the frame to suit and the house is getting re-rendered anyway, it should look perfect once everything's done. Door price is about £1600 delivered.

I've also ordered it 30mm short as I'm going to have the joiner make up a step which I'll get skimmed over in stainless steel locally.

Going to be a long 8 weeks!!

I know it's a bit of a thread revival, but we've just had AHA Garage Doors (http://www.ahagaragedoors.co.uk) supply and fit a Hormann TPS400 in pigeon blue (additional cost colour)
It was a custom size as the existing aperture was wider than the standard euro size. Also included an upgraded handle to stainless steel and a letterbox, but still came in way, way cheaper than places like the London Door Company...

All in was about £2k, with fitting being about £350 of that.

Very impressed with Trevor Clarke (from AHA) and also with the quality of the door. The door fits into a double sealed frame and at long last, no draughts or water ingress. And a bonus from having the large glass area is more light in the hallway.

Hope it's OK to revive this thread. We've gone full circle looking at different door/side panel options for our 1970's house. Although I was keen on the Hormann doors I don't think they'd look quite right on our house and TBH they're a fair bit more than I'd like to spend.

Trouble is that the doors we've found are supply only, so we've then got the hassle of looking for someone to fit it. I tend to do most DIY in our house, so I've not got a long list of trades to call on and I don't want to fit it myself. So what we're after is an Engineered wood door and side panel similar to below, but also someone to fit it in the Berkshire area. We will also need an 18" or so wide section bricking up to the left of the side panel, so it's not a pull out and straight replace job (hence why I don't want to DIY).

Something like this:

But perhaps with this door:

OK, just to bump this thread up from the depths. I found someone local to quote for the door/sidelight as I pictured above and it came in a £3,600 inc vat. I don't know if they just didn't want the work or whether that is typical (I usually do most work myself around the house so trades always seem expensive to me), but the door and sidelight is about £700 (Engineered Oak) supply only.

This means that the remaining charges were for bricking up a 40cm wide opening, plus the door ironware, fitting, treating the door/frame to two of coats of stain and plastering the inside where it was bricked up.

Obviously no trade would like someone going back to them to break down these costs (so I haven't, I did just check that he was quoting for the Engineered Oak door and not a higher spec one), but nearly £3k for 2 days work, plus the brickie, a skip and plastering a 40 cm section seems a bit much to me. Considering that some people on this thread have had Hormann doors/sidelights fitted for much less than this.

Last month I rang another company and just over the phone they were 'ball park' £4.5k, so we didn't bother getting them to do a full quote.

Am I just completely out of touch here or do I have to accept that I have to get a plastic door fitted?

FWIW I was hoping for a figure around the 2k mark, but the Hormann doors just are't the right style for us.

We went for a Solidor from the Italia range, it cost us £1600 fitted for the door but was just a single door, no side frames or bricking up.

It's not really the style or type of door I'm after though. It would be easier if it was as there are plenty of places around that would do it for me.

Without wishing to annoy any bricklayers on here, I wouldn't have expected the bricking up to cost more than about £300 including materials for a day's work? Given the price of the door/sidelight then it leaves an awful lot of extra money just for fitting the frame, some hinges, lock and handle and two coats of stain.

I've got someone else coming to quote to repair my brick garden wall, so I'm going to talk to them about doing the bricking up part. I could remove the existing wide side panel, but leave the existing door in place. After they brick up half the gap then I could put a temporary wood panel in place, then order a made to measure frame with a pre fitted door. Just I could do without the hassle of DIY and I'm not even sure if you can buy a pre hung Oak Engineered door with frame/side light. I fitted a new back door at my old house (stop sniggering at the back wink ) so if it comes to it I might have to go this route.

I would prefer to get someone in though...

Well, I'm not one to rush things laugh and after much debate about Oak or not, we ended up having a Hormann door fitted today.

It's a bit of a change from the old door, but we like it. However, since we reduced the opening for the side panel we had a brickie do that job a while ago, consequently I've now got to finish off a little bit of plaster boarding now the door is in since it wasn't considered part of 'making good' and having paid over £3k I'm not very happy about that. frown

Just to resurrect the old thread yet again smile

Going for a Hormann door but unclear on the door cills.

I see the last photo from OldSchool has a matching main cill - but I can't see anywhere that Hormann do the cills !

Any ideas?

We very nearly ended up with a white frame to (not) match the grey door because as stupid as that might seem it was the standard option. I think there was a simple tick box to say we wanted to colour match the door. Overall we've been pleased with the door, though it does get slightly sticky on hot days (since it's a dark colour I guess it soaks up the heat from the sun).

Also it's quite easy to mark the sill, so we have a small scratch on ours. Being a satin finish, you can't rub it with anything otherwise it might start to go shiny. In hindsight I would have paid the small amount extra for a slightly textured tougher finish that looks essentially the same colour as we choose, but with a slight metallic 'fleck' to it.

I still haven't got round to re-doing the piss poor bit of silicon on the internal hinge side that they did. All the other silicon I did myself after I'd made good on the plasterboard, so it only highlights how wonky they did it. frown
