Alternatively, find your local farming supplies place and buy 5l of 360g/l RoundUp for about £45+VAT and dilute it yourself down to the strength you need - which is proportionately around a third of the cost of even the Verve Tough Weedkiller (and means you'll probably never need to buy weedkiller again).

My worry would be how much went down the storm drain and straight into the nearest watercourse.
Surely at that point it will be instantly diluted and have the same effect as if the guy had diluted it?

It seems the ammonium sulphamate link on page 1 is still on sale...

Cheaper here-

I've put some down on my chipped area round the front and nothing seems to be growing any more. All I could find about dosage was 1kg per 5 litres but I didn't realise how quickly that disappears from a watering can.
As commercial weedkiller doesn't seem to be touching the stuff that's coming through the shingle, I'm going to get some of this now smile

ETA: Any difference between Sulphamate and Sulphate?

Yeah, but instead of 100ml of concentrate to be diluted he's got 4000ml of it. It tends to be adsorbed onto the surface of soil particles, but how much has he left dried on the hard surfaces of his driveway?

These incidents can have serious effects - glyphosate not so much as this, it's harmful to the aquatic environment but the damage is more subtle, but this kind of incident can occur;

Yes - sulphamate is weedkiller and sulphate is fertiliser.

Two letters in chemistry make a lot of difference!

I was sure that was the case, however searching for sulfamate on ebay brings up sulfate, and wiki was confusing me this early in the morning.

Thanks for the links though, I'm now a happy idiot.

Oops... My next door neighbour has just been spraying his block drive too kill the weeds. I asked him what he was using, and showed me a 5l bottle of glyphosate he's asked a farmer to get him, down to the last litre. He then said it doesn't go far, he didn't think 5l was enough.

I then suggested he read the instructions....

200ml weedkiller to 9,800ml water. He'd been using it neat!
For those that don't know, a typical application rate for "roundup" is 4 litres per hectare, so 5 litres could treat 12,000 square meters.

The only thing that's stubborn with this is moss on my blocked driveway. Chips are still nice and dead though.

So I've finally got around to putting the weedkiller down... and I've used 1kg of ammonium sulfamate across 2 watering cans to cover a bit of soil 1m wide by 4m long.

Overkill... hopefully.

I've just taken a before photo, lets see what happens.

I use Roundup 3000 or Rosate 36 (both glypgosate) for areas I want to clear completely
and
on the lawn I use Headland Relay Turf (against broad leaf plants)

Weeds have started coming back through the chips the past few weeks. Gives an idea on how long it lasts anyway.

There's a stump in there which is sprouting quite quickly, so I gave that area an extra soaking hehe

In one week I'll post before and after photos.

I've got lots of this Xmas tree weeds (horse tail) I think they can be 5m of roots connected underground

So what is the best thing to kill it off permanently?
1) table salt
2) ammonium sulphamate (seen on amazon for about £14)

Roundup.

You need something systemic that gets down to the roots, and glysphate is best for that. Ideally you want to do it in the spring when the plant is growing, might get away with it now, but dont leave it much longer. Also you'll need to spray again in the spring I expect.

Nothing with 5m roots and which is as prolific as horse tail will be easy to kill in one go.

Weedkiller? I believe I did the gardening equivalent of "nuking from orbit".

Not sure about your weeds, but winter doesn't seem to phase mine.

24 hours later. There's been some serious death.

About 50% of the weeds have browned off and curled up. The rest look like they're on route.
