24 hours later. There's been some serious death.

About 50% of the weeds have browned off and curled up. The rest look like they're on route.
But have you just burned the vegetation, or have you killed the roots? In 24 hours it wont have moved down to the roots, not in this weather. Could be that the plants are still alive and will recover.

We're due rain tomorrow which will water it down a bit. I'll keep the thread updated.

Having used ammonium sulphamate, I'd bet my mortgage otherwise.

I've got lots of this Xmas tree weeds (horse tail) I think they can be 5m of roots connected underground

So what is the best thing to kill it off permanently?
1) table salt
2) ammonium sulphamate (seen on amazon for about £14)
We had this at our old house, the only thing that got rid of it was Growing Success Deep Root Ultra Tree Stump and Weedkiller.

Not much has changed since then, maybe the big stump has died a little further.

Everything is pretty dead.

I'm reviving the Ammonium Sulphamate love-in as I'm needing some more.

Managed to find it for sale here-

http://mistralni.co.uk/products/ammonium-sulphamat...

Considerably cheaper than previous options.

Edit: bks, just noticed they only sell to professionals or other companies.

This is the cheapest I can find it-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004MMTVJI/ref=...

Given that seller is also 'Mistral', I'm not sure what's going on.

Just get it ordered from the mistral website. They are offering free delivery as well now.

"we do not place any particular restrictions on delivery addresses and our couriers can deliver to any address in the mainland UK and Ireland"

When you go to register they ask for a business/company name.

I think anything with 'Patrick Bateman' in the name might raise an eyebrow or two!

I've found brick & mortar acid to be very effective this spring after accidentally spilling some on some weeds a few weeks back. It seems to be a 28% hydrochloric acid mix & just burns them to a crisp - no sign of them coming back either

I've just bought the stuff linked to earlier in the thread

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004MMOEH2?psc=...

Now you said that, I've got some brick acid in the garage, I wonder if a diluted mix would do similar.

I've just got some weeds coming up where the tarmac drive edges meet the walls. Also have family member with a drive that has gravel down the middles of parallel laid slabs and that is just full of grass/weeds. The idea is to just kill everything, forever.

^^^^^^ Top of my don't do list would be to not mix an acid based solution with an ammonium solid.
I'm no chemical expert but it doesn't sound a good combo.

If you survive tells us how it went.... wink

I bought this. It was pointed out at the time that it's a big quantity. I do have lots of weeds and a reasonably sized garden. Given the concentration of 25ml to 1 litre of water (I wrote that on it in a Sharpie pen to make sure i didn't go OTT). It totally works though. I had to wait for a non windy day, but since we had one of those last weekend, the nettles are keeling over as I type.

That is one option, yes!

The 25ml is 'allowed', it's the upper end of the instructions on the container

Ammonium sulphamate update. The above bed was clear all winter, but it is now one big pile of weeds. They all seem to have appeared in the last few weeks, all at once.

Can you guess what I'm ordering...

I've got Ground Elder... I've managed to get hold of some 360g/l Glyphosate from Wilkos. (its their own super concentrate). I plan on pasting it onto the leaves with a brush. Will this be any good? I was hoping a selective approach might save the shrubs which are still in there...
Yes, ideal. Be patient and vigilant and treat any new shoots that appear too.
With ground elder, crop it and eat it. Cooks just like spinach. Can also be used as a salad leaf.
