To ruaricoles - currently the shoes/ costs are going to go in the laundry room or in a 'tree' free standing coat hanger by the front door. However, we're constantly looking at this so thanks for the suggestion.

Re. the garage - I didn't want a door into the living room for obvious reasons and I left out a back/side door because I want to max storage and shelf space. I've had this setup before and am happy with it.

Weekly update...

It's amazing what happens once you get started...

Foundations from a week ago:

Today, the brickies have been in laying the blocks for the block and beam and suspended slab:

And the steel people turned up with their clever equipment to measure the heights ready for the steel frame. Apparently one corner of the foundation is 1mm out smile

The thing I like about all this stuff the most is how something rises out of organised chaos, bit by bit smile

Still waiting for our foundatins to be done. At the moment I have an interest in a patch of mud.

Savour the feeling. It's the last time you will feel in control wink

The Edge is always nice for a great meal to watch the sun go down.

Todays update pic. All foundations are now completed as far as they can at the moment. Just waiting for the steel to be erected next week and then the brickies can finish off and then the floor will get laid.

Like the look of the design, will watch this thread with interest as it's the kind of project that appeals to me too.

Are you thinking, 'This doesn't look very big, should I have gone out further?' yet?

Latest update after a two week hiatus in build activities whilst the engineer and architect argued about stuff smile

The garage foundations are starting today (no pics yet) and yesterday part of the steel frame went up. Rest goes up when we build up the walls over the next few weeks. It's interesting to see some height appear, makes the whole thing seem a little more real. Hopefully the pace of the build should pick up from here!

Me pretending I'm helping out!!

Frame as seen from rear of plot.

Latest Update - 29 July:

Since last time the preparation has been going on for the block and beam floor to be installed at the front of the house; the suspended slab for the lower rear and the garage slab.

The block and beam is happening today - hopefully - as it's tipping it down!

View from front. All pipes for drains and rainwater (all internal) are in place.

Now that the rear is ready for the slab to be poured, it's all looking big again.

The garage slab was poured yesterday too. It will be at the same level as the front of the house as its on a pad supported ring beam due to tree roots.

Hopefully all the floor will be completed in the next week, so I will update the thread then.
