The 40 Year Old House

Thanks guys
A bit more progress on the bar.
This is the shed that is getting "upcycled" to become the bar. It was built on the ground so the bottom bit is rotten. I'm building a frame on the deck and the walls will be fixed to that, then the bottom of the walls rebuilt.

Bit behind updating this. The guys from my car club - The Phantoms - came round to help me lift the shed up on to the frame. That was on 24rd March. It took 10 of us to carry the roof up the garden, there must be a lot of layers of felt on there! This is the shed in place.

You can see how much was rotten at the back!

And here we are up to date, the deck is all on and I've started on the steps...

Starting to take shape - I love it!
Thanks dude After a couple of long days work, things are coming together. Seating area at the front, rails round the edge, stairs all done. Even managed our first BBQ up there today

I absolutely love the finish of what you are doing here. Really classy. Nicely done, keep the updates flowing
Thanks dude, appreciate it. Here are some pictures of the stairs and landing, they are filled with my photos framed in charity shop and ebay found frames. Lit by a genuine 1960's Atomic light nick200 said:
You have a fantastic sense of style with what you've done. The lounge really captures the era. What made you think of the changing text / sign picture thing, love that - have you seen it done before or its your idea ?
Thanks very much Not seen it before no, I just wanted something we wouldn't get bored of and had seen these boards out the front of churches in the US. ChrisG89 said:
House looks amazing, love the car influences in the hall and shower etc.
Also, I'm shamelessly stealing the sign idea for my front room (hope you don't mind!). What size letters did you use?
Thanks
Thanks, sorry for the late reply, the letters are 8 1/2 inch tall I think. Also, I'm shamelessly stealing the sign idea for my front room (hope you don't mind!). What size letters did you use?
Thanks
I have decided that the bar wouldn't be a proper Tiki Bar without a couple of proper carved Tiki's so who better to call on than my friend Trader Tark down in Brighton. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Trader-Tark-Tiki-Ca... He is carving two Tiki's to sit either side at the top of the stairs. He's been kind enough to take a few photos to show the process.
From the log pile...
Into the car...
To the Brighton...
First cuts...
Matching pair...
Still roughed out at this stage...
I'm driving down south to a car show in July and collecting the Tikis, they will have to ride up in the back seat of my '57 Chevy

Could I ask about the car wash thing - is that glass or a big tile? I had an idea for one of our bathrooms but wasn't sure how to do it. But however you've done that would probably work
Nick Grant said:
The sign on the wall is a 1500x1000 piece of glass with printed vinyl on the back, made by a splashback company.
Can't remember the name of the company off my head but I could go through some old emails. Mouse1903 said:
All of it looks great! How much to do your first bathroom if you don't mind me asking?
Nick Grant said:
No probs Matt, we bought all the fittings, fixtures and tiles ourselves then employed a plumber to do all the work and he supplied grout and adhesive and any service pipes and stuff he needed. Both bathrooms cost about the same each to do. About £2500 in materials and fixtures and £2200 in labour. Not including the Sonos Connect Amps so about £10K all told for both. This includes underfloor heating for both with a touch screen controller and some good quality fixtures, some from Bathstore (in their sale) and some ebay bargins such as the shower tray/screen and speakers. I could have had a go at doing them myself as I've done a kitchen before but don't really have the time and the finish wouldn't have been as good I'm sure
About £5K for everything, parts and labour. The Tiki's are in place now...

Been a long time since I updated this thread, finally got round to progressing the interior of the Tiki Bar. One of our neighbours is having all their doors replaced so I've nabbed all the old ones, I've stripped all the hardware off and will be using them to wood panel the shed inside. Bonus was on one of the doors was the drunken octopus who wants to fight hook! That will make it's way into the bar.
