The 40 Year Old House
Discussion
Thanks everyone, much appreciated
It's fun to be part of it, there has been a lot of positive response, lots of local support and people I haven't heard from for years coming out of the woodwork There have been a few haters, especially on Facebook and people keep posting our address up online without any concern for our security. I guess it goes with the turf when you stick your head above the parapet.
What's been cool though is there is an Instagram chat with more than half the homeowners from the series now added so it has been a great support network and I have a great excuse for some road trips to visit some of the other houses and owners. This is very timely as I'm almost finished putting my Chevy back together as it's been off the road for about two years.
I actually liked the house with the bikes in, I'm sure as petrolheads we've all thought about being able to park our favourite car in the house at one time or another My favourite so far though has been the Garden House in St Andrews, just stunning.

Yes that right. They are Ikea besta cabinets and we wanted more display space so changed the doors. The lego buildings are my wife's collection of the modular buildings lit up with ebay led kits.

just saw the colours you painted the extension a while ago... if you dont mind me asking, was is the actual paint of the orange and the same for the aqua?
I have a study (its a workshop at the moment) that we were painting dutch orange (F&B), but after the application, its so dark and deary compared to the manufacturer images, yet yours is the light and vibrant orange I am looking for and hoped it would be.
(dont say dutch orange... dont say dutch orange)

Aah, so close! Amazing to get to the last three, it’s a fabulous home because it’s so individual and so handmade. Congrats on getting so far
Thanks very much, very happy with getting so far Skyedriver said:
Congratulations from my wife and I too. Just watched the programme, competition against some VERY big budgets there.

The missus and I watched the final episode this evening and we were gutted that you missed out. We were rooting for you as you’d done most of the work yourself, but you have everything to be proud of for making it that far.
We were picking up on lots of design touches and furniture in your house, and just wanted to ask you about the white Besta unit - did you get the bottom textured doors from IKEA also?

Yes those doors were from Ikea, don't think they do them anymore.
There's been some cool stuff happened off the back of the show.
1. Anna Campbell Jones (one of the judges) has had a boardwalk built in her garden inspired by ours.
2. There is a guy who painted a beach scene in his garden to match ours after seeing it on the show.
3. Most cool is the original owner of the house saw the show and loved what we had done, she came round and introduced herself, we showed her round and she was able to tell us all about the options they chose when ordering the house and what had survived since the start, like the parquet her and her husband put in.
Most bizarre has been people recognising us in the street and not just locally we were up in Fife at the weekend and had people coming up to us saying how much they liked the house. Considering how brief our appearance was I'm astounded.

You do bear a passing resemblance to a popular TV personality though, so fairly memorable! Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
