We have a nice Baumatic gas double oven. It performs very well and we have had it now for about a year. A few days ago it stopped working, and I found the 3A fuse blown. Upon replacing the fuse, I noticed the main oven light was not working; the bulb had blown. So once a new fuse was in, the oven then was working fine. I assessed that as the bulb blew, it had taken the fuse with it. We ran it for the last few days without a bulb in and it was OK. Today I fitted a new bulb (admitted, supermarket supply, not a major electrical chain brand) and after using the oven for about an hour, out went the new bulb and the fuse. Another fuse is in there and I will monitor it, but has anyone any recommendation for a really good make of bulb which will not f**k our cooking up?

Cheers hairyben for the quick response. It was marked on the card as an oven bulb, small lens pygmy, bought by OH from Asda. (My lad works for them so I will take the pee...)
I'll get a branded one to replace it and cross my fingers.
The one which came out was the original, but I can't see what make it was as OH has discarded it somewhere. I guess it was probably Italian anyway - lol.

Back to the drawing board. A couple of days ago we purchased a Crompton bulb from our local electrical shop. The cost for the one bulb was equal to that of the pair previously purchased from the supermarket. Today it blew taking the fuse with it.
I had ensured that the bulb was screwed in nice and tight, and now having exhausted my supply of 3A fuses I will call the Service department tomorrow to arrange for the appliance to be checked.
Bummer!

PS Engineer coming on Tuesday to 'have a look' lol

UIltimately we fitted an 8 amp fuse, and kept to 15 watt bulbs, with no problems other than the occasional blown bulb. Now the light is not working, but the bulb is OK. Next step presumably will be to remove the whole lamp assembly and check it. I know that genuine light assemblies are available at much less cost than from Baumatic, so we will see how it goes. What I may do meanwhile is to swap the light assemblies between the two ovens, as we rarely need to see what is in the top one.

Er....changing fuse ratings would not be my first thought. But hey, pop a bolt in and that will probably never blow!

A fuse blowing when a bulb pops its not unusual. More common today as bulbs are basically all cheaply made st. You shouldnt uprate a fuse as a fuse is a sacrificial item that prevents other parts of the system being damaged by over current.
