We bought an 'orthopaedic' Hypnos mattress with a new bed in 1998. It is still as firm and comfortable as the day we bought it. I agree with the earlier comment about the weight though, we flip ours regularly and busted poopstrings are usually the result!

The main difference from our old bed was that while we wallowed in the old one, we laid on top of the new one - it felt weird at first but it is truly great. What's more one turning over barely moves the other's side at all.
Whilst one shouldn't 'wallow' one should sink slightly and certainly not be on top of the mattress.

It should feel like your feet are slightly raised above your torso.
It was just the contrast.

WARNING ALL! I've bumped an old thread to ask a question about one of the replies.

I've signed up to PistonHeads just to reply to this, because you are the ONLY person I've found on the entire interwebs who has actually bought one of the Hynos Premier Inn beds!

How is it?

We're thinking of getting one. I would never normally buy a mattress without trying it in a shop first, even though you can't really tell what a whole night will be like based on a 10 minute lie-down. I'm happy to pay for a Premier Inn room so we can do a proper test drive! I've already emailed them and they've confirmed that the one you get is exactly the same as the ones in the hotels (ie they're not making a domestic version for this offer or anything).

So anyway, how are you getting on with it? smile

I went with one of these - just the mattress

About 4 years ago - really, really nice.

I am slightly larger (c105kg) and my wife a little smaller (c55-60kg), so we needed split mattresses

Furniture Village sell Hypnos and are in the process of refreshing their shopfloor models.

These models have only been on the shopfloor since Boxing Day so their condition should be good.

The reason for the refresh is simply due to them changing the name of the products and prices should be significantly below buying a new one as they need to shift the old ones ASAP so they can bring in the new ones.

Call your local store beforehand to confirm if they have Hypnos on display and if any of them are on clearance.

In the interests of full disclosure I work for FV so thought I would share some insider info.

After taking advice from my Granny about spending "as much you're able to" mattress advice we shelled out More than we wanted to on a good quality mattress but we went for the Super King Size which I think is about 6'6" each way. It was a brilliant idea and is by far the best bed/mattress combo we've owned

Third night on our JL 7000 Natural Collection

To say I'm impressed would be an understatement, I've never slept so deep and well. Much more supportive than the ViSpring we had previously.

£1200 very well spent!
3 months on and still very impressed.

I have an amazingly comfortable yet stupidly expensive Super King sized Hypnos matress. I think RRP is was £2500. I got it at cost + vat. £500! eek yup. That's the markup on these things. I used to look after the IT systems at a posh furniture retailer.

Not yet but seriously considering it to go on existing slatted frame. Missed a good condition hypnos on eBay recently which went for 50 quid!

When we bought our mattress about 15 years ago we were advised by the shop to try it dressed in what you normally wear to bed. We went through the process of trying different ones for firmness and comfort and when we'd decided they said now try it for half an hour to an hour with a quilt/sheets as you can't tell from a 10 minute test.
She came back an hour later and we were both fast asleep smile

We bought a Hypnos.

Sounds like a recipe for a TV prank show!

The real test of a mattress is what it's like after a year...

Maybe I should have added they did say you can't turn up in the buff smile

Still comfy after 15+ years

we bought a Vispring mattress from John Lewis a couple of years ago. They are made with british fleece wool and cotton etc plus loads of pocket springs. It weighs an absolute tonne.

I still love it. Every night it is so comfortable. You know when you get back from abroad you've had a long flight etc and you climb into your bed, and it feels like bliss? It's like that, every night cloud9

So after looking into these Premier Inn ones and seeing people recommending the Hypnos brand, I found a local shop from Hypnos website who sell them.

Went in to buy a 4"6 expecting to pay around the £700-£800 mark for an entry level Hypnos, I've come out with a 5"0 Hypnos with the Divan, Headboard, Duvet, Pillows, Sheets being delivered tomorrow for £700. The price in the shop supposedly is £1,300 for that so very pleased.

Seeing as the 4"6 Premier Inn ones were £745 with no headboard, very happy with that. Lets see how it goes.

Just to add my tuppence worth to the thread.

We went mattress shopping last summer and after much online research and in-store testing we agreed a good discount on a Vi-Spring and handed over £3k for a king size mattress and divan.

I couldn't wait for the thing to be delivered and had an early night to put my new purchase to the test. Disappointingly neither of us liked it at all. We both felt like we were rolling out of the bed, made worse by having a tendency to sleep near the edge.

Over the next coupe of nights I would wake up with a sore lower back and the missus, although faring slightly better was distinctly unimpressed given I had spanked £3k on it.

At one stage we slept with the mattress on the floor in a bid to understand if the sprung divan was the root of our problem (it wasn't).

To cut a long story short, the store promised to take it back but asked that we persevere for two weeks and review the situation then, and I'm glad we did! The Vi-Spring is back in favour and I wouldn't be without it, easily beating any of the top hotels I've stayed in. Getting to bed at night is a pleasure (and getting up a chore).

I've no idea why it took so long to get used to it, I've never had that problem when changing beds before but there we go!

just found this thread.

We bought a Premier Inn Hypnos mattress a couple of months ago and it's perfect. A double was about £450 IIRC and you do have to wait a bit for delivery, but it's the most wonderful mattress ever and we have no regrets whatsoever!

Just came across this post while I was searching for the premier inn beds.

Seems people have been spending the night to see if it's worth it, doesn't seem a bad gig to be honest.

I wanted to post this as I am thinking about one too;

Hypnos Premier Inn Mattress – Should You Buy One?

I thought it was pretty useful.

mynextmattress.co.uk has the Premier Inn bed for about 10% cheaper than ordering it through P.I.

Ordered mine and waiting for delivery, advisor there tells me it is a very good bed and unless you go £3k plus you won't find anything better.
