Just came back from 2 weeks away - the thing we missed the most? Other than the fantastic British weather obviously. Our Hypnos mattress. Even when we have stayed in really nice hotels, me and my wife agree nothing has come close.

Was bed shopping at the weekend and really impressed with the Hypnos beds - thanks for the suggestion on this thread.

To those with a Hypnos matress who have had one for a couple of years or more...
Is it still flat or does it have 2 dips where you and the wife sleep? (if that makes sense)

Any thoughts on the Benson for Beds bespoke collection? Was looking at the http://www.bensonsforbeds.co.uk/opulence-supreme-m...

at a cost of £1699 including the divan base, for the superking variant. Was interested because they can actually make one in Emperor size, as well as having a store locally. (Had initially been considering the Hypnos Royal Sandringham but no local stockists in Northern Ireland; also considerably more expensive but obviousl in a different league)

Has anyone used http://www.factory-beds-direct.co.uk/ (John Ryan). There is an awful lot of good info on the site, even if you end up buying a bed from elsewhere its worth a read.

Seems all bed manufacturers including Hypnos advise against buying their mattress and using it on an existing bed, stating their mattress and divans complement each other and may otherwise cause unnecessary wear etc.

Super king bed - 180x200cm
Mattress £630
Mattress & divan £1050
Mattress & 2-drawer divan £1130

Thats a £500 difference between the mattress on its own and with the Divan. Id rather spend that £500 on one of their even better mattresses. I could order just their mattress right now, but to buy the divan as well would mean saving up.

Do we reckon this is true, or just a ploy to get us to spend more?

I bought just a Vi-Spring mattress and put it on an existing divan and all seems well 5 years later...

If we rotate with the seasons we're fine, trouble is, we keep forgetting, so there is a slight dip at the moment, but only on my side, as I'm the hefty one.

Im tempted to buy one of the Hypnos Premier Inn mattresses.

But are they just a lower spec version of Hypnos entry level mattresses, sold as a gimmick to promote both brands, or are they as good as you'd expect them to be?

Maybe nobody has any experience of Bensons for Beds bespoke range?

How does a price of £3089 for a 215x215cm (Emperor / Large Emperor, depending upon which source you use) sound to people? (For comparison the Hypnos bed I mentioned earlier is available from Land of Beds for £6299)

Yes, we've bought two double mattresses and a bed from them in the last year.

Artisan Naturals mattress -bottom of their natural materials range, but excellent.

Artisan Luxury mattress and Artisan Luxury zip and link superking divan set -fabulous. Mattress as good as a Vi-Spring costing three times as much. Divan base quality not quite up to ViSpring's best, but still very good.

I don't think I'd go anywhere else.

Agreed - I looked at lots and ended up with their Artisan Naturals – SKS Ziplink (I think - def one of the Artisans). Have had it several years and it is great.

I've also got a feather topper.

Always a good idea to get a topper - as you can replace this easily and cheaply and it extends the life of the mattress

Has anyone succeeded in getting ViSpring to replace a mattress? I'm not happy with ours, and there are dips and inconsitencies in the level of the mattress. I've had it for around 18 months.

Or does anyone have any advice on what issues would convince ViSpring to replace?

Anyone spending that sort of money on a mattress needs their head checked.

It really depends on the the quality, I had a 2.4m x 2.4m made (bedroom is huge) by ViSpring and is was around £7k to £8k. Quite sad really as I had it made for a house which I moved out of because I moved into it so its never been used.

I'm sorry but coupled with your name, made me chuckle.

You lay an egg, you lie on a matress.

Read about this in the Telegraph today, from Made. I've purchased a few items from them before and been impressed, may and check it out.

I'm going to buy a new mattress in the near future ( when I can decide which one!) and asked about the need to buy a new base at the same time. It was suggested that if it had a wooden base then rolling a marble across it would tell you if the base was flat or there were dips in it/ warped. If it was a pocket sprung base then yes you should get a new base with the mattress.
My Dad suggested putting a plywood board across the old base as a cheap fix ( this is because my stairs are a narrow 2' and the ottoman base I wanted wouldn't get up the stairs.)

You never closed out that thread - did you go and measure the base?
