That corner to the right of the oven, up yo the f/f just doesn't "work" - certainly worth trying a few more iterations.

If you moved the breakfast bar up to the soil pipe bit, then consider you'll lose a bit more space - 4 stools may be a squeeze.

Yep, the FF needs to go. I don't mind if we can only fit 3 stools but if we move the breakfast bar we can probably lengthen it slightly.

Love the black window frames - if you don't mind me asking, where did you get them, what material are they and were they comparatively expensive?
They actually very dark grey UPVC (white on the inside), and I don't know where they came from as the builder supplied them. I'll try to find out. They weren't expensive - £2k including fitting and bricking up where the 2nd french doors were.
Thanks very much, have been looking for grey UPVC for ages but can't find them. All I seem to be able to get around here (SE London) are white (or horrible wood look) UPVC. If I want grey it seems I need to buy aluminium which I'm sure are great, but are more expensive.

I can see why you are not happy with that layout.

When starting a design the first thing a designer needs to do is to find out the clients' requirements, and to start a dialogue about them if those requirements are going to be difficult to satisfy in a good design.

So the first thing I would need to ask is, do you really need two tall oven housings and a tall fridge freezer?

To be fair to the designer, I told him that the most important thing was that it looked good! Two ovens were top of my list of requirements - the FF wasn't on my list.

What do you plan to do about refrigeration, then?

Oh, and those corner base units aren't helping at all, they need to be replaced with magic corners which not only work better, but don't impose so many strictures on the layout.

Under counter refrigeration smile
Agree on the corners. I prefer the ones with the very PH "Le Mans" pull out: http://www.clever-storage.com/modern-kitchens/inno...

I thought I would have a little go at this, and am sketching the room in order to get an idea of what might be feasible. But the distance between the two windows doesn't seem to be shown on the plan?

Have you got young kids?

If so, I wouldn't have the breakfast bar and hob combined.

OK, I've had a bit of a think about it, and I reckon the only way that the requirement to have two tall units with ovens can be met without leaving awkwardly shaped/sized bits of worktop is to do it like in these blocked in sketches. The opportunity would then be there to have another oven if you wanted, I know having a selection of ovens is very popular now

With the original design, could the tall f/f be replaced with separate under counter fridge and freezers?

I would stack the ovens and have a full height integrated fridge freezer next to it. IMHO fridges shouldn't be under the work top because you are always bending down to look inside them.

Thanks for the feedback chaps.

Singlecoil, really appreciate you having a crack at this. Is there any reason you didn't take the breakfast bar up to the nub? What did you have in mind for the over counter unit in the corner?

Podie/muncher; from a practical pov an ff would make sense but I still think we'll need an extra fridge.

Perhaps I wasn't clear that the reason for 2 ovens is for the look, a double oven on its own would actually be fine for our needs. May be the two tall units could house a double oven and a ff, but we'd lose the symmetry.

If I was doing it, then the breakfast bar could be placed wherever you liked, that's one of the beauties of custom-made cabinets, not working to a limited set of standard sizes means things can be placed wherever they are required.

I drew a unit is the corner to avoid this sort of thing

Awkward little space half hidden behind the tall unit.

As for what could go there, if I was doing it you could have, for instance, a cupboard with a tambour door, that way there would be no danger of sweeping anything off the worktop as might happen with a hinged door. If you were buying elsewhere, then it would be a question of choosing something from the available cabinets in whatever door range you were having.

I know what you mean about symmetry, by the way, it's a big thing with me too, especially little pieces of internal symmetry such as two 550mm cabinets instead of one 600mm and one 500mm.

Finally some progress. Kitchen is being fitted this week by Wren fitters. We'd held off having the install until now as it's half term and the kids have gone to visit their grandparents.

Today the old kitchen has been removed, and the electrics for the appliances have gone in.

Utility

In typical Wren fashion, the cupboard and drawer fronts haven't been delivered yet but the fitter is confident they'll arrive in good time...I'll keep you posted. Hope I'm not waiting 4 months like Muncher! :/

Good progress today. Should have appliances an worktops fitted tomorrow...but seems likely we will be another victim of a Wren Living cock-up - doors and decorative end panels still not arrived and I don't have confidence it will be resolved quickly.

Didn't realise it had been so long since I updated!

Kitchen still not finished - no thanks to Wren. It is complete but almost all the drawer and door fronts need changing due to problems with the paint finish. No idea when that will be though.

In the meantime, the rest of the windows at the back have been changed and the garden has been tidied up ready for some planting and finishing touches.
