I know exactly where you mean Mark. We have been mortgage free for a few years now, my son is all grown up and ready to flee the nest so myself and the Mrs are talking about moving a bit further North, maybe 20 miles or so.

Your guard dog is a bit bigger than our cat!

I didn't like the way Rossi went about dumping Burgress, like you say he has to perform next year, if he doesn't he will go down in everyone estimation. I am afraid he is looking rather desperate which pains me too say.

I just hope the racing is good next year.

Oh, don't get me started about the switch to BT sport.
Yep, I don't know if the end to Rossi's career will be a bit of a damp squib compared to his glory days. I think he went to Ducati thinking he'd develop it like he did the M1 all those years ago, but things have just gone downhill from there. Obviously the Simoncelli accident will have had an effect but yep he is looking desperate and that's coming from me another massive fan.
I was bang into my bikes from 2000 until 2009-ish and they were Rossi's glory days. Gibernau in 2005 was a great battle. Even the Haydon battle in 2006 was good. Pity Rossi fell off in the deciding race, but I was pleased for Nicky that year, especially after Pedrosa had skittled him off earlier on.

Ditto on the racing, I want to see a pack at the front fighting it out, but I don't know if we'll ever see that in this class again. Moto 3 is the best for that.

As for your move, get it done! I love being out of town with no chavs or traffic. Open our door and at night there is silence with maybe an owl hooting. In the morning it's the same but replace the owl noise with a cockerel.
A mate of mine moved up to Acklington. Good value up there and not too far out. Loads of other options though.
Anyway, take it easy John. Here goes another long winter eh. smile

PS. My dog maybe bigger than your cat marginally, but he can't catch mice! wink

glad the thread's inspirational, could do with some myself right now, its a harsh place in winter on your own, long time since the place has seen Gill smile

when it gets a bit tough (especially I'm now on my own) I often read back through ours just to remind myself how much we've achieved, that is where the tread started out really, like yourself, we wanted to keep a record of the journey as it will /is be soooo long it'd be very easy to loose track of where you came from, its a good idea, didn't realise how good at the time smile

good to see you're getting stuck in as much as you are / can, smaller veluxes are much easier to flip and clean than the bigger to, bit more breeze / temp control to & a damn site easier to handle when fitting, not sure how BIG the big was going to be though..

wont hijack your thread with it but another MGP fan here wavey already missing the w/e fix of WSBK, BSB etc

ps - how much water ingress were you getting with the missing soakers / flashings? if any. I find these things interesting paperbag

You mean one of these then… hehe

Nothing will ever beat Batdog though, even though it's old news now. smile

Not sure either would look so cute with half a rabbit hanging out of their mouths mind. There's more chance of our dog being dragged off by a rabbit than the other way round and yes he does look like an Ewok. hehe

Yeah it must be hard going out there on your own. I hope she gets things sorted as quickly as possible and can head back out. People often underestimate the "team" aspect of things, but it's very important, especially if one person isn't feeling the love for the project one day, the other can chivvy them up a bit. You'll get there though I'm sure. I mean the job you've done on the 2 person Chalet is fantastic. In fact, as I've said, the whole project is fantastic.

The original plan for the velux involved a single on both faces of the roof, only about 1m wide x 1.5m high, but that beam I've mentioned half way up the underside of the roof has changed things a bit as when we get the room made habitable, the roof will be insulated/boarded inside, upto the beam then taken across horizontally, to the front beam, if you know what I mean. Basically the internal ceiling won't go to a point, it will go slope up, level, slope back down.

So we now have a metre of height from the base of the roof to that beam. We decided to go for more of a letterbox style velux 134cm wide x 98cm high but there still isn't enough room to get the timbers in to make the frame for it, so now it's going to be 3 equally spaced 55cm wide x 78cm high windows.
Agree with your thoughts that it will give a bit more control etc. If the planner tomorrow says we can go for some on the front, then I think we will, but I'm doubtful. You can't change much that faces the road through village. Even Upvc doors and things aren't allowed, although we've already got one so hopefully that will give us grandfather rights, as it was fitted before the conservation order came along.

Talk about anything you like on my thread matey, I've never been one for staying on topic. wink
Yeah you know that winter is here once all the racing ends. frown I'm still yet to go to a Moto GP race live. I know I should but you see more on the tv, then there's the queues. We used to do Lemans every year for the 24Hr and that was great fun, but it was as much about the road trip as the race.

Quite a bit of water surprisingly. The wall above the foot door into the garage gets covered in water when it rains. It drips of the top of the door frame like a waterfall, albeit a slow one. Loads of wood-lice in the store area which won't bugger off until we get it dry either.

Check if permitted development rights have been withdrawn from you property (article 4) It can make a big difference to what the council have a say over.

Hi Lofty, it is an Article 4 conservation area now. Does that mean the planners say no to everything?

I'll find out this time tomorrow I guess. We've been told by other villagers that veluxes won't be allowed on that front of the property which is why we have basically scrapped that idea, but we're hoping we do not have to ditch a Upvc door for a wooden one. Madness!

There are properties in the village with veluxes on the front, but I'm guessing these were done before the Article 4 thing came in. Ho-hum.

They might allow a conservation velux window but there's no guarantee.I don't think they can make you change what is already there e.g upvc door, having said that I'd try and do a deal, if they won't let you have the velux, tell them you will change the door to timber if they allow the velux.

Ah yes, our roofer showed us those conservation ones. More money for not a lot more but if the planners dictate that, then so be it.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow then and I'll get my haggling head on. smile

Yeah not a lot of difference for the big price increase, the have a false glazing bar down the centre and sit lower in the roof, they are also black not grey.

The houses just lack a bit of kerb appeal and the buyer of next door is also up for rendering theirs, which may give us a bit more wellie with the planning department.

I'm enjoying the easy part of smashing things out etc at the minute. It's the calm before the storm currently, as the roofer is here and we have our pre-planning visit on Monday, by the local council, so not really much I can do for now.
Might be worth looking into thermal wrap/render if you and neighbours want it done, councils love Eco stuff don't they.

Yep, I must admit I do prefer the looks of them (well glazing bar unimportant) in the more subtle colour and flusher fit, I just don't like the price. wink

Thanks for that Brite Spark, I hadn't heard of that. I'll see what vibes I get tomorrow and then email a couple of companies with a picture of my house for a ball-park figure. I'll be honest rendering is high up on our list of wants, but low down the real list of priorities if that makes sense, but fingers crossed we can get it at some point. smile

I just fitted one in this house I've refurbed, its in a conservation area but not section 4, so I could have fitted a standard Velux, but did think the conservation type would look better. You can see they sit a lot lower in the roof.

Nice job! Lovely looking house.

Conservation Velux looks more subtle doesn't it, very nice. I like that black door too. Exactly what we are looking for for our new porch when it's built. Hopefully with black garage doors to match, although I'll have to find some I like. The roller ones can sometimes look like shop fronts.

It's a toss up between gloss black or that pale matt looking green colour. Both have been doing the rounds for a few years though, so I don't know if they'll become a bit 2008, y'know, like white Audi's. biggrin

The black wins at the moment though.

PS. I like white cars really.

Almost went for the pale green but I also like the black and chrome. My friend is the painter and gave the door about 10 coats while it was laid flat, so its got a lovely gloss to it.The house looked like this when I got it.

Alright there Craig, hope your well. Thanks for the offer of info, I'll get in touch if I get stuck on anything. As I've said earlier, due to us living here the plumbing will be done as quickly as possible by professionals, during the building work, but there'll still be odds and ends I do myself later on. smile

Yeah, you'd be wise not to. If he hears you he'll have your arm off. He eats grown men and grizzly bears for breakfast. biggrin

Thanks Buck and yep I hope we can get the go ahead for most of what we want, but time will tell. No rush to be honest, it's far from ideal how we are living at the minute, but it will make us appreciate the finished product even more.

I'll second that regarding Lofty's house. Top job!
