Some external works over the last couple of weeks. Firstly wall ties because we are tackling all the issues on the survey whilst also carrying out the new things we want to add -

Old ones isolated and new ones drilled -

Platform to do gable end. Scaffolders broke a good few roof slates on store. -

That's basically complete now but I'll need to add some finished photos later. The guy is also going to brick acid the whole house as we didn't get planning passed for render so have to work with what we have.
Next was to move all the old cables from the front of the house. The main power cable travels through the air from a pole on the road, then down the front of the house into the meter cupboard just inside the porch to hallway door. Cable can be seen running down to right hand side of porch. -

Old electric cupboard including night storage heater gear. We were being fleeced for electric until this was removed. -

New position in dining room. Temporary sockets wired in for some power and cat5e cables pulled through from various rooms -

Anyway, I won't bore you with sorting the power cable but basically Northern Grid were responsible for moving the cable, my energy supplier was responsible for fitting the new meter and my electrician Hoggy, an old biker pal of mine was responsible for hooking everything back up. What a faff getting everyone there on the same day. Endless phone calls and errors on their part. Costs were £853 to move the cable and £53 to for new meter. So the best part of £1000 to get a cable off the front of the house.

The cable now comes to the left edge of the house and travels down the gable end and into a new meter position in the dining room. kitchen cupboards will wrap around the corner (once side wall of house is removed) and house the electrics.

Just the black telephone cable to be routed internally now and the front will look a lot fresher.

All the old trellis and hanging basket brackets have been removed and also the phone cables running all over the front of the house from room to room. White cables. -

Heck of a lot of work gone on there, if they make you pull those gate posts down they want there heads looking at,, they look superb
Yeah thanks maxest. All of the neighbours have said how nice the posts and fences are and that they brighten up the whole road as you drive down. They look even nicer now as i have a traditional style half lantern on each post and a door number slate on the right hand one. Will be posting a pic once I manage to blur my number and street name. wink Hopefully the committee will see sense.
Thanks for the compliment. smile

You should of done what some have done in my village. Get yourself on the parish council which is usually pretty easy when a vacancy appears as there usually aren't enough busy-bodies willing. After a decent length of time and after making some acquaintances get your planning through and then then resign a while after. I know of two people who have done this. Though usually if you are within the county planning guidelines there's little they can really do other than make a noise and delay things. Unless they're in the same lodge as the planning department of course! smile
Ha! I know what you mean. I had said that to the wife when we moved in but they are such a bunch of jealous beggars I want nothing to do with them. biggrin
It's funny what you say though as the couple who own the Manor house have just had a development passed without any objections and funnily enough they are on the parish council. That's life.

Too true! Although I can't whinge too much as our local councillor drinks in our village pub and was on the committee the night of our last planning application hearing. He stood up and made a little speech along the lines of "I know this house and drive past it all the time and it would be ludicrous to restrict the renovation by the conservation order when all the owners are trying to do is bring it back up to a good standard". I'm sure it helped. hehe

He also has my 911 stored in one of his barns for me during my work too, so that's good. smile

Ok, last post which should bring us up to date.

New soil pipes and bathroom wastes on rear of house replacing old rotten iron ones which can be seen at start of thread I think. The 2.7M bifolds will run from the right hand side of the old kitchen window. The reason the cut is down the left side is so that some bricks could be taken to brick up the small rear window in the store. -

New roof slate vent fitted for bathroom extractor -

Bathroom TV cage fitted so sparky can wire it up. Wall still to be taken down and rebuilt due to bulging and cracks -

Shower tray trial fitted and mixer shower controls going in. Very tight fit. -

5 metre steels in full width of house to knock out into store. Hole in rear of house to get steel in. Store floors also taken up for building regs. Means we can go underfloor heating in there which is ideal as it's where kitchen will be going and there'll be no wall space for rads due to kitchen units. -

da-daaaa!

The iPhone pics don't really do it justice, it's quite a big space and the vaulted ceiling with veluxes in kitchen area makes it a vast improvement. smile

Store/new kitchen floors coming up. -

You've lost me mate. confused

Actually I see. You mean Pigton or something maybe?
In that case no. I'd just say usually but it's that small a place anyone could find the house if they knew the village. Nicer houses than mine anyway mind.

It rhymes with **** wink

I got rid of the Big Bang R1 after breaking my hip and thigh on it, I still have the other R1 for track and use it quite often, I've been to Almeria, Aragon, Croft, Donington and Knockhill so far this year, I am off to Mugello at the end of August.

For the road I still use the FS1E and a 125 LC.

Yep Moto GP was boring just the same as the first WSB

Back on topic, your house seems to be coming along nicely

Going to keep the thread updated, little and often, rather than have months worth of pics and have to sit for hours. smile

The last steel went in on Monday. Not seen in this pic but it goes under the chimney stack in this pic. We were hoping to keep that fireplace in the second bedroom but we had to lose the base to get the steel in properly. Never mind, we'll just board over it before skimming the room.

Popped past this morning and the new floor is down in what will be the kitchen. heating guys were about to fit the underfloor heating pipe then it will be screeded later today.

Bathroom is being plastered tomorrow then tiled and finish fixed next week. Builders will make a start ripping the old porch down later today too. I'm very happy with the progress.

Nice job OP. Currently building from scratch down from you in County Durham and currently living in a rather un-luxurious static caravan, which on balance is no worse than living in a building site I guess!

You do have to wonder about what the Parish Council are trying to achieve when they complain about things like your fence.

If you had put a sodding great mobile phone mast up I could see their point but it definitely looks like spite

Thanks Benny, exciting times for you then. Do you have a build thread running then?
I say the odd time, when things are going wrong that I'm never doing this again but I actually would love to build somewhere. The way we feel at the minute is that this is the home for us though and I want a few years of normal life (cars, holidays, etc) once we've finished this place. Never say never though. smile

Good luck with your build. If we could have fitted a static on the plot we'd have done that but it was pointless trying to live in a tourer. silly

Hi Richtea, yep I was warned when we first moved in (buy the councillor actually) that it's a very funny village. At the end of the day the proper council know what the parish lot are like. Once they make the decision, it's made so no point stressing about it. We had our main plans passed off including, shock horror, our black front door and garage doors, so I'm happy enough about that.
Hopefully the gateposts will go the same way and it's just another thing to wind up the parish lot every time they drive past. hehe

Yep Mark, this is the one:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

As you can, we've had a few setbacks of our own and the council didn't make things easy for us at the beginning!

I'll keep mine updated too, good luck with yours.

Just read it Benny. What a chain of events, especially with your job. Things seem like they're looking up though.

You'll get there and the house will be stunning.
