I appreciate this link has long since been dormant but i was just googling the same problem and this link came up - I suddenly had a grand idea that worked a treat - see the attached photo.. I drilled two hand grips into the wood and it pulled straight out with me using a claw hammer for pivot !! Just a thought !

I'm glad that worked for you, but I wouldn't recommend it as a substitute to lowering the cabinets. Whether a technique like that can be got away with or not all depends on how the tiles were installed and on how flat the worktop is.
