How did you get on with the insurers?

Shame, hope it works out for you! Still angers me they only got fined £15k each, but with such tarnished reputations, hopefully they will suffer far more in the future.

I know that I am posting a while after the last post, but I'm interested in what kind of outcome Dave had from Kennedys? I am in a similar situation.

Thanks

You're quite right tonker but this thread is kinda gone past the apportioning of blame stage .

Hindsight tells me I was a bit of a prick to even consider using this scheme and I fully admit that. You live n learn.

I'm pretty much resigned to being told tough st, if I get anything back from anyone then it'll be a bonus. Hopefully this thread might stop someone else falling into the same trap, and to ensure they use a decent solicitor in the first place ie. Not a dirt cheap one.

Ha.

I am not at liberty to say how it ended up I'm afraid. Make from that what you will

This thread's a bit of an eye opener (although I'm sure it's quite rare that a solicitor is bent like this). Just completed on a house purchase and my conveyancer handled the stamp duty, presumably. What can I do to check that they really have, guess its a case of contacting HMRC direct?

I wouldn't stress about it.

These sort of schemes are (hopefully) a thing of the past as you just can't get away with it.

In the worst case scenario then you do have comeback so just don't worry about it.

I like to think (and hope) it worked out ok for the OP (avoiding names for obvious reasons). Fingers crossed for you emilys!

We very very nearly fell into the trap, and had it not been for a few solicitors in the family I dread to think the mess I would have got us into. When the paid professionals in their area of expertise put assurances into emails that your OK...it's hard to dismiss them!
