Yes, we built them in the upright position (as per the Ikea instructions) and then we slid them into place. It was a bit fiddly, but two of us managed OK (we may have 'forced' our teenager to help briefly).

It helped that we had no carpet down at the time and I've had the carpet laid upto the wardrobes and not under. Also, you can't tilt them at all when sliding so you have to be very exact with your measurements otherwise they might not fit (the left one had to be forced into position as it literally touched the ceiling in one back corner). At least the carcass is cheap enough that you could buy one to try out. If not the other option is the 2.00 metre high version, but that leaves a big gap on top of course.

We did exactly the same thing.

Two additional bits of wisdom...

1) The base of an Ikea wardrobe will not take 2x 18st Northern whelks at the same time without getting "compromised" (if one also enjoys leaping from the wardrobe in your batsuit, this may also be a consideration).

2) Don't allow your father to drill the holes for the handles. Especially if your father has no comprehension of (a) how any handles the typical wardrobe has and (b) the reason why handles do not go at the hinged edge of a door.

biggrin

(Oh, and once they're in, getting them out again would be a destructive exercise. Less of an issue when they cost a few hundred quid rather than a 5 figure sum!).

Very late update, but I hate threads that don't have some closure - this is what we ended up with, Ikea Besta units. It's the look we wanted and total cost was under £1500, including the lights (some of the drawers/ cupboards have the lights that switch on when you open them).

Hmm, not sure why as I used the built-in uploader - if you click it you should be able to see it.

Picture worked for me when I clicked on it. Nice job and it's always nice when someone comes back to a thread with the result too. smile

Wouldn't be spending anywhere near that for something like single wall storage.
