This is the best house on Sandbanks IMHO: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...
That's been on the market for over 3 years now and quite possibly 5.

It started at around £11m iirc and has been coming down ever since

Traditionally styled on the sea front do not sell well. It's surrounded by glazed contemporary properties and that's what the money wants.

I know old mansions aren't to everyones taste but this would be tempting if I won the euromillions. Yes it's in Northern Ireland but it comes with 550 acres for a cool £5m. This is a proper estate!

Dundarave Estate

In reality, it's probably a bit big for just me and the wife.
that main hall/atrium is awesome, how much needs spending on the place though... petrifiying

The bills to get it up to permanent residence standard and keep it as a home would be terrifying. Without a crew similar to Downton I just can't see how you could ever live in somewhere so big.
It's a shame there aren't a few more interior pictures.

Dundarave is just gorgeous. The Irish Times ran a video on it, it scrubs up a little better in pictures than on video. They still have a small household staff there but it must get lonely, especially if any of them remember the place in its heyday.

Beautiful.

This has been rekindled on the market....

It seems the purchaser gets his own pew in the local church, and because of that I will be putting an offer in on Wednesday morning all being well!! Far better than the 30-40M properties in London - and far, far better than the 60M flat (though I am in the minority in thinking it is quite nice).

smile
That's beautiful isn't it... some of the interior decor isn't to my taste but it's clearly been renovated without much thought to budget and would be a lovely place to live I reckon.

I agree, absolutely lovely. I like the interior too. That bedroom with the beams is stunning, I could imagine waking up there every day cloud9

Sheep stools and Eskimo statues are a bit odd, but a lovely house none the less.

This is what I'd be buying if I won the euro millions.

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

Probably need a few more million spent on re-decorating it to how I'd like it but if I've just won 140m that's not a problem. Check out pictures 19-20, that road would be my private sprint track smile

Annoyingly, after reading the detailed and interesting descriptions of Whitestaunton and Dundarave this 18th Century country pile has had no effort put into its description at all.
I'm sure the agents have a nice glossy brochure to hand but if you're going to put a £12m+ house on Rightmove, at least SELL it.

Funnily enough, I was also thinking that it would make a great country house hotel.

I posted Whitestaunton Manor when it first came to market, not only a good description and brochure but it also has a YouTube video - Whitestaunton Manor: http://youtu.be/xVU52MCH5-Q

Ps it was also a site dig on Time Team.

What do you think it would cost to run it annually, £500k maybe ?

well i think you'd first need to do it up and fix the bad things, furnish and fill it will a standard of stuff in-keeping with the property... then running costs every year. The basic Euromil is of the order of £30M, you'd prob be burning through half that before you've even stepped in the door. Easily another couple of mil on fixing, doing up and furnishing... So you could live in it for 26 years or so as long as you didn't spend a penny of your winnings on anything else, which would be a shame as this is a car forum!!

Nothing like that to just keep it going, it's more the scale of any repairs and non-routine maintenance that it might need.

Not sure I'd call Windlesham the countryside! Isn't this place on the A30? I'm sure I've driven past it before. If not, it looks identical to one that's in between Windlesham and Sunningdale.
