This may get a mixed reaction on here but I think it's great!
Art Deco, anyone?

Certainly interesting!

The green bathroom / bog would have to go though.

No way; that's great!

I like that house, and what it represents.

Picture 14 looks like a scene out of Callum or a Harry Palmer film.

And I love the description of the roof top observatory as "Bedroom 4" hehe

That's been nicely done inside.

I also like the modern take on the style but without the same old iron frame windows though - http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope... but at least it has underfloor heating and costs 2p a month to heat smile

That's nice, but the bedrooms are all quite small.

I appreciate it's Art Deco, but to my eye, it's only a few tins of green paint away from an RAF control tower.

Not so keen on that although it's probably because I don't like that style if interior decor. The outside is great though.
The whole timewarp thing adds to the character IMO

it's only when you hold that up against the slightly more weather-worn one, that you truly realise the acute magnitude of the sheer character massacre that has taken place. If I bought a truly characterful fixer-upper (and i hope to, one day) i would want to factor in the (probably significant) extra cost of finding an architect to absolutely embrace the character, work with it, weave it into the home. Getting any old sthead in to just rip the place to the bone like a piranha stripping a cow carcass, and then replace it with the same old st they get on every build because it's easy... it should be fking illegal. I'm often surprised that people hold up examples of it as "prawn" in this thread. Nothing personal.

If it's listed, and the authorities can trace the destruction to you, then it is illegal.

Who were happy to oversee the beige carpets being fitted?

Love the external architecture but I agree that it's utterly bland inside and you've got to wonder how little sense and imagination you must have to spend a little shy of two million for that

That and the stainless steel & glass handrails! What were English Heritage thinking! I agree, it's crap because it's neither fish nor foul.

pfft. Hardly a heritage interior, looks like a barratt home.

Apart from the lovely staircase and some of the floors I much prefer the newer/more expensive one. I get tired of people trying to preserve things which are st. Adapt for modern living and preserve the good bits.

Note: This fixer upper is in Brixham, I would not pay £500k to live there (plus renovation costs), you're never going to get the money back either.

In my opinion, the one in Stanmore looks the absolute business! Not sure I'd want to live in Stanmore, though.

bloody hell - i didnt mean to start a debate.

i dont like the house - Art Deco isnt really me - i just wanted to illustrate the horrific price increase of similar properties in terms of proximity to london.

the house is part of a big Art Deco estate. the only stipulation that heritage put on them is that the outer facade of the building must not be altered, they must be painted the same colour and worst bit - you must keep the Critall windows.

and...

Stanmore is very nice! biggrin

Sorry, I should add - it's only because I work in Camberley that I'd not want to live in Stanmore. Clapham to Camberley is bad enough in the morning smile
