ouch

'"Bank of Scotland hold standard security over that property. They are owed £7million approximately. In terms of the valuation report by Savills, the property has a value of £3.25million.'
So it didn't cost £8M to build. Someone was given £8M by a bank. £3M went to the build and £5M went to pay off debts

Can they get a refund?
yup - bathrooms are hideous (IMO obviously) and I'm not a fan of wood panelling

That is rather nice for a relatively new build
Rather small garage but I guess you could knock into the "mee'dya" room to make a triple. That and perhaps board over the swimming pool to make a fine motor room for a collection. biggrin

It's an unclear floor plan, but I think it says circa 14000 sq/ft. That's including the plant room and garage. Say 12500 sq'ft of proper build.

That comes in at around £640 a sq/ft which is a very very high build cost. It can't have cost that much!
One word: WINDY!

nice garage (is that a Mustang in there?) but overall I'm not feeling it. IMHO the best one I've seen on this thread (for me and my tastes) has been the watermill in Kent(?) which was even (semi)affordable

Also, the external stonework all looks to be reconstituted 'stone'...

I find the Leggett website to be really good, but what puzzles me about French estate agents is the almost universally poor quality of the photos. You see 2m+ euro chateaux advertised with photos at odd angles that look like they were taken on a 10 year old Nokia!

They don't seem to do floor plans either, which is a bit of a pain.

Really interesting "butterfly winged" house. Happisburgh Manor £790,000 - http://www.jackson-stops.co.uk/cgi-bin/properties/...

Shame it's at Happisburgh, as coastal erosion is very bad there.

How bad is coastal erosion there? I'm actually seriously interested in that! Been looking for a place in Norfolk, on the coast, for a while...

Heh. On second thoughts, no thanks.

Shame, as it is absolutely beautiful, and I like Norfolk (my family have a place down the coast)

Download if you don't have it and open up the Google Earth application, go to Happisburgh and clcik on the time icon, it has 1999 satelitte photos, compare them to the clear 2009 photos.

You will get these

1999

2009

I think there's a lot of time before it reached Happisburgh Manor and a lot of complaints and petitions and from those closer to the sea before it even gets close.

Most of the erosion is on that point to the East, the furthest part from the Manor, just out of shot is a caravan camp, that appears the same in both images.

Here'e one from 1992, it looks like it's that area that is effected most.

SO that would be the very bottom right corner of the colour picture already posted and not near the manor.

Ablington is a gorgeous little village, we've been taking our dog to the kennels there for about eight years. This is being marketed very quietly as I drove past week and had no idea this place was for sale.

It is a shame. More so as it appears it was bought by Clarenco and refurbed to a high standard.

They seem to specialize in exactly the kind of properties I crave - Scottish and Welsh country houses/baronial castles and the like, buy for peanuts, refurb and let as holiday/wedding venues. It's the portfolio I'd love, with the knowledge it's probably never going to make anything like the same money as buying Victorian terraces and mews houses in West London, but will be so much more fun.
