He also spent quite a bit of money converting it from flats, then extending it over the years.

Its a bit Hypocritical of Tom Conti, considering the amount of work converting from flats and extensions that he has done on his own house over the past 30 years, that he complains that one of his neighbours wants to do some changes to their property.

£20m building it. It's astonishing.
No mention of the battle the owner just lost against an energy company, who are now going to build pylons across the land.

Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) applied for a compulsory purchase order for a tiny slice of Mr Clouston's estate, which lies in a narrow strip between Eskadale and Hughton back in 2011.
The energy giants needed his land to widen a road so it could accommodate traffic working on the controversial Beauly Denny overhead power line upgrade.

With Conti , he has kept the character of the house.Thierry, , wants to rip his up and start all over again with a designer house at odds with the road .I'm kinda with Conti on this one.Although he might just be a Spurs fan!

I'm finding it hard to believe that the construction of a few pylons could devalue the property so savagely. Perhaps this is normal at this end of the market, but it makes me wonder whether there is more to the story.

The Scottish property has been massively reduced from 15m but you can't say it's value has gone down because of the pylons. It never sold at £15 million, nor at £10 million so now it's perhaps more realistic.

When there is a property without something comparable nearby it often gets marketed at a crazy price to see how the market responds and in this case it's responded by not buying.

It may well be that £3 million was always the true value but even that might not be low enough.

That's a tad magnificent. 15M for all the lots though...

On a slightly lower budget, this is lovely. Willie Whitelaw's home on the edge of the lakes. Seems very reasonable.

The kitchen's a bit odd and there's nothing either side of the Aga on which to plonk hot pans.

Got a feeling the Aga may be decorative - there's a new kitchen in picture 9.

The Aga is in a room off it, 'kitchen 2' on the floor plan, connected to the scullery.

In itself no, but I you've owned an Aga you'll know that having plenty of surfaces adjacent is a good plan.

Also, look how the kitchen is laid out. It looks like there may be a staircase rising from the middle of it, which is possibly why the Aga installation is so poor. A kitchen that "works" is very important.
