What do you guys think of this potential Grand Design? I have been put off a lot by contempory design recently but I like this a lot.
Its massive and you would have a hard time making it feel homely but I would like to give it a try.
Any ideas on the likely build cost?

Make sure you check out the brochure at the bottom of the listing for full details and pics

It's a monster at 32000 sqft. First floor layout looks a bit chaotic, though. Just need to get rid of the stables for more garaging.
Would probably cost a few million to build?
Also has planning granted for - http://xenmarlow.com/areas.html
Currently trying to explain to the girlfriend that this has the potential to make a fantastic weekend bolt hole.

From the brochure
"The purchase of a closed church can be a lengthy and
involved procedure which is governed by the Mission and
Pastoral Measure 2011."
It's listed, in an AONB, has no pp for conversion and you have to appoint an architect to sketch conversion plans to submit with your offer. If you have time and cash aplenty, by all means have a go, otherwise there must be tons of rural cottages/farmhouses that would be less of a headache.

And expect every neighbour to have an objection to what you are doing."The purchase of a closed church can be a lengthy and

I was looking at buying a church a while ago. The ex parson showed me round. He said that all the locals were up in arms about it being sold, and added pithily, "but they weren't bloody interested when it was open".

I like that a lot, it's not much over budget as what we are in the process of buying in London at the moment, a hell of a lot bigger, and Bedford gets me to Farringdon (and thus very close to work) in 40 minutes.
And Lady F insisted we stay in South London.
THIS IS NOT FAIR!!!!
We do seem to like the same kind of gaffs! And Lady F insisted we stay in South London.

Horrendous wall to floor ratio. The heating and maintenance bills will be interesting. dxg said:

Driven by this every day for a few years and you can barely see the house down its private gated road with all the weeds/small trees or plants growing through the driveway
Its Huge, and looks like a project to renovate it ran out of money, bathrooms look like they are missing taps.
